Arizona Cobras at Firebird
Boy! What a Grand Day! Racing Cobras at Firebird. Several of us took the refresher Performance Driving Course. Besides me there was Scott, Steve, Jim and Eric. All took turns with Instructors and listening to old Larry Pond Stories. Lots of fun on the track. Couldn't keep up with Mulv. He was in such a hurry to get back to the sheep. Eric Wood did some agricultural driving then his fans quit. Thanks go to Brian Williams and Jim Brey for their instruction and guidance and to Dave Shulak for his support. Karl Bebout came to visit and there was an incident with a Tucson Cobra, but I don't know who it was. I did hear the motor was toast?
I guess I am just not cut out for road racing, just driving. Just , needed a reminder every 4 years or so.
It was fun while it lasted.
Bob

Wish I could have made it there today but unfortunately I ended up having to pull my engine and transmission to replace a bad extension housing bushing. Thought I was going to do it the easy way by using an external puller but all that did was waste time and $. Hope to be out there next time.

Well I was going to go too! My cobra is still being Frankens..te..in'd. Boy is it going to be ugly. I had to clean the house, clean the rocks in the yard, clean the pool of all the dead snakes, clean the boat, pay the bills, pray, worry about voting, lost my mobile phone, found my mobile phone etc. I want to have fun!
Gordon, is my car ready yet?
Where are the pictures at the track?

I had an awesome time out there playing on the track. Only looking in the mirror for a car that's going to pass me, not one with flashing lights. I feel sorry for the people at work today, because they have to hear how I passed Dale Earnhart, Jr., driving a miata.

All,
Enjoyed the day on the track. Yes I did a little circle and ended up plowing some dirt. Actually it was pretty mild for as dumb a maneuver as I pulled. I always end up being the bad example. I can handle it. Hope everyone learned how not to do it...
BIG thanks to Jim Brey, who was kind (brave) enough to ride with me both trips out. Jim, thanks for showing me the "trick" lines. I'll remember until I get out there again.
Yes, had a little electrical problem and the fan quit and I puked several gallons of distilled water and water wetter onto the paddock. Tried to bypass the circuit, but the wire I could borrow was to small of gage and got really hot when I test ran the fan. Also didn't have enough distilled water to refill completely. So I milled around until the end and loaded up on the trailer and went home. Thank God for trailers.
Anyhow, I'm done for the year. I'm sure the fan is an easy fix, but haven't been happy with the motor temperature at Firebird (before the fan quit) or PIR (two weeks ago). Over the winter (can I really call it taht in Queen Creek?) I think I'll try to get a new radiator (maybe Ron Davis - have one in my Vette and it works pretty good) and fan system and maybe go to a Stewart water pump. We'll see how good santa is to me...
See y'all soon...

You might consider this as an alternative. I have one in my 65 Shelby GT350 and it works great and they are cheap in comparison to most.

Scott, I hate to bust your bubble, but that wasn't Dale Jr in the Miata...that was my Mom.
She was going pretty good for that little track. Of course, so were you!

Jim,
Are you trying to say that Dale looks like your Mom?

While wearing a full face helmet and driving at speed, there is some resemblance, but Mom is much taller than Dale.

Great day at the track
What a fun day!
The weather was great and the company was better! It sure is nice to see a Cobra croud at the track I sure wish I was a better instructor, but I am still learning myself Sorry for Scott and his second motor...Back to the drawing board Car ran great and no smoke comming out of the rear in the turns. I am with you Eric car is up on jack stands, awaiting the holiday season, one trip to Hersh's and time for the family.
Keep it above 100............
Brian
