Wake up call lastnight!
SO I drive my cobra to a Xmas party lastnight, a good 25miles each way, I return home via the freeway, doing 75+
I get off at my exit, sitting in the turn lane, light turns green I go and as I turn the passager side lower ball joint seperates....
No damage other than my pride tho....
So in closing check those nuts and cotter pins =)

Maybe your a bit more sensible than I. I'm one of those guys that NEVER just have "one".
Good Luck with your repairs

Wesjr,
Glad everything turned out ok.
Checking every nut and bolt is great advice!
I caught a similar problem last summer.
Thanks for posting

np, hopefully it will save someone from the same ordeal.
Its one of those things that makes you think, "What IF"....
I spent the next day going over every bolt and nut.
Did not find any loose ones, which was a good thing
edit: spelling ....

Driving with no shoes..
What's the big deal..
Yes good advice I check my car over every time its up. Amazing what does come loose when driving both hard and erratically..
Have a great Christmas there.

At least you have cotter pins and castelated nuts. The left front wheel fell off of our Dodge Durango the other day and now, after paying the dealer $1,400 to fix the thing, I find that Dodge does not use cotter pins on the axle nut of the 2WD Durangos. They use an elastic stop nut nowdays. I think I'm going to be drilling some holes and getting some castelated nuts for the front end.

It seems to me that I just read recently about a recall notice by Daimler Chrysler for the Durango and one other vehicle because the wheel could fall off. You might want to check into it.
Paul
Edit: Forget it. I just did a google search and the recall was for 4wheel drive Durangos and Dakotas. Sorry!

And on the 4WD Durangos and Dakotas, it is the upper ball joint that is seperating and causing the problems. I'm a licensed aircraft mechanic among other things and you never use an elastic stop nut on anything that is subject to rotation against the nut. Our aut manufacturers are taking too many shortcuts anymore.
