If you like doing things out doors then Reno is a pretty special place especially if you get away from downtown and the casino's.
We moved here 6 years ago from SF and initially there was a bit of culture shock, but the "gomers" are in the minority now and there are actually more than a few residents who go to a dentist on a regular basis. In some areas it is still the "Biggest Little White Trash City in the World" but you need to take a ride up to Virginia City through the Virginia highlands and then back down to Mound House or blast up Mt. Rose Highway to North Shore Lake Tahoe and things will become a bit clearer. Ellie and I look forward to being part of the Cobra party in May and hope you all come with the right attitude.

Arthur,
Do you live right in Reno or out of it a ways? I haven't been over there or to Virginia City an several years and am looking forward to seeing some of it again, this time with no pressure from work. I never did care much for gambling, the nickle slots were my limit, so the Casinos are of no importance to me. I am just looking forward to a bunch of getting together, meeting each other face to faqce, and having a really good time driving around and taking pictures. And of course maybe talking some about next years meet and getting a few ideas started to workon through the Winter.

Reno is OK and with a little extra time there is a lot to see within a short drive. %%* everything after 800+ miles is a short drive. Tahoe is only about another 45 miles by memory and the Ponderosa of Bonanza is on way into Reno. Ponderosa has a tour or just roam around to see the home you saw on TV so many times or I did anyway. Carson City or the capitol of Nev. is close but ... ? i spent 4 days there one night?
I would like to go if I can get a couple of cars together but would trailer for sure. My seats and ride are very comfortable but gotta love the stereo-cruise control and other creature comforts of the tow rig. It also lets me bring a couple of cars and tons of luggage, so if I can make it will also help any of our group with their luggage or what ever. Hell now I can haul fuel for somebody else if needed.
I was raised in Tonopah, Nev. a thriving town of 2500 people when I was there as a teen. Made dates a bit tough cause they were either a sister -cousin - aunt- OR ? and the two girls left in town were EX girlfriends so no hope there !!! Nevada is a great state! No income tax, low property tax, fair wages and cost of living can be reasonable. Instead of taxing residents they tax the heck out of gaming to support the state. I still own houses and land waiting for Ca. to fall in the ocean.

Jeff,
I have looked at some trailers just for the reasons that you mentioned,as I would like to attend some of the farther away events. The trailers are relatively reasonable out here, but try to find anything to tow them with that is in my price range. After looking at pick ups that I would be afraid to start a 50 mile trip with and they want a fortune for them, I have about came to the conclusion that no more events that I go to, I could hire a car hauler with an enclosed trailer to haul my stuff there and backand still come out ahead. But I am continuing to look at pick ups as I don't need a huge one and could use one around here quite often. And like you, a long drive in the Cobra is a little tiresome. I normally stop at almost every rest stop and gas station just to get out and walk around a few minutes.

Well Ron it does not take long to appreciate that trailer after having it a while. When you get there you are all rested up and feel like driving your toys. It also makes me sleep a bunch better in an unknown area knowing your baby is dry and safe with alarms to chase away the bad guys or wake you up atleast.
I pull with a cummins in a 3500 dodge dually and a 100 gallon fuel tank to get from here to there. Even towing it get better milage than my beast.

Hey Ron:
I would have answered your message earlier today but the power has been off for the last 12 hours. We're having a bit of a dicey winter here but the snow will be gone well in advance of the meet in May and the weather at that time of day should be perfect.
We have a horse ranch north of town off of Pyramid Highway but only 20 miles from the Eldorado Hotel and downtown. We moved to this area 6 years ago because I have an autistic son, Mark, who is now 15 that I needed to provide a safe and challenging environment for and San Francisco just had too many crazies, too much traffic and lights etc. for you to be able relax or feel comfortable with Mark in tow. It has proven to be a very good move for Mark and for Dad.
If anyone wants to do some skeet, pistol and rifle shooting or even drive a few golf balls the ranch has these faciliities and will be open but not adviseable to take your Cobra as the last two miles are a dirt road.
In any event we look forward to meeting you in May.
Regards,
Arthur Michael Cesario

Arthur,
Sounds as if you have a very nice place there. As for moving out of San Francisco, that is a no brainer so far as I am concerned. I didn't mind a few days there when I was working, but just refused to move there when they relocated the tech group. So I went back East. You know where there used to be ground and is now two or three feet of snow. Decided I didn't like that and came back here and have been up here every since. I used to come to Reno on side trips just to watch the crowds, as I am not much of a gambler. But this is one trip that I really want to make to have a chance to meet soe of the people and just get away from everything for a few days of having fun and relaxing. And at my age I need LOT of relaxing.

I'd like to tell "MULV " that thousands of Hotrod and Custom Car owners end up in Reno for the biggest event in the nation, not anywhere in Az. Oh, also the huge HD get together in the so called "arm pit ". Reno in May has beautiful weather, 78 degrees. The town has great night life, and is close to our northern neighbours that don't whine................

"Reno 911" says it all...

Dear "MULV", PLEASE stay in AZ, and keep your negative attitude out and away from people who love life. The best thing that could happen for the event, is to have you stay in your little world....... complaining! Oh, by the way, I lived at Tahoe for twenty years. I do know Reno very, very well. Living in Dublin means WHAT????? Also, I built my Cobra, mine is also ALL American, I know you can't say the same.

Geez... nobody is planning to move to Reno. Its called a 3-4 day vacation with friends and Cobras. The nay-sayers don't need to get all wrapped around the axle. Its always the people that never had an intention to attend in the first place that whine, cry, and complain when the sun comes up. Don't worry, be happy!
A simple 3-day gathering of Cobras, Daytonas, GT40s, at one of the coolest little hotel casinos with a nice secured space blocked off just for all of us with incredible outdoor lighting for parking the cars. Ala Carte BarbQ in the parking lot on Friday night. An ajdacent bar with video screens playing Cobra videos, for our use as we need it all weekend long... A nice clean hotel room, many with hot tubs and 3-seat bars right in the rooms if you choose, a nice outdoor pool, spa, healthclub, a 2-story suite for our use on Saturday night to hang out and have a few drinks. A Saturday drive up in the mountains if we want to... I was raised to appreciate stuff like this and especially at a 47% discount off of normal room rates and in the best hotel. Most importantly the chance to hang out with a bunch of people that enjoy their Cobras and friends.
Boy... i guess some people really do see the glass is half empty. I can't imagine going through life like that for long. Oh well, if anyone changes their mind to see the glass half full, they are still welcome to attend and there are no hard feelings. Don't miss out. See Ya There!

45 registrations/reservations gone already in the first two days. Going fast. Cobras, Daytonas, GT40s are coming from as far North as Surrey British Columbia and people as far East as Oaklahoma so far. These people are driving them too. Others are coming in multiples in car carriers.
Can't wait to see who breaks the 2,000 mile mark drive in a Cobra to WSCB.

Duane,
You keep referring to an ID Badge for our secured parking and such. Is this something that we will get when we check in, or are you going to need them before we go in order to get our rooms and secured parking?
Thanks,
Ron

Hi Ron,
Yes. Thanks for the lead in. I plan to provide more "informational" updates prior to the event, but here are the basics:
- We'll have a copy of your mailed registration forms at WSCB in a small area adjacent to the corral for check-in.
- You'll be provided with your badge/ticket at the event based on your personal identifcation and the license plate # on your car.
- Your name/handle information and licence plate number will be on an ID badge (being worked on now).
- Your corral spot will be provided based on your reg forms.
- Only people that have registered with WSCB get a spot
- Others that have not registered prior to the event, and show up for late registration will have to go through late registration IF there are any corral spots available. Working on this process now.
- During the evenings the Corral gates will be closed up.
- The hotel security WILL NOT allow people in the fenced corral area without their badge in order to protect your cars.
Essentially this is it... more details forthcoming. As long as you registered and sent your WSCB form in, you are set. If people just show up without registering, and don't want to, there will be some public parking waaaaaay over on the other side of the hotel, and that won't be part of the WSCB Corral. I hope this helps.
