WSCB drive, part 2.
You guessed that Stuart gased up during that short 118 mile drive. Once back in Reno we attended a late night awards presentation. On Sunday morning a group photo was taken and we said good-by to new friends. There were 2 Cobra Coupes, 6 GT-40's and even a new Ford GT-40, a real Cobra #98, I was very surprised by the variety of Cobras. Lots of high dollar Cobras and only a few FFR's. My hat is off to the California guys who braved the rain and cold temps on Thursday while driving over the mountains into Reno. The weather during all five days was perfect, low temps in the upper 40's with highs in the 70's and low 80's, the sky was a beautiful blue when we departed at 11:15 am on Sunday, and headed south on highway 395. Somewhere around Gardnerville, Stuart stoped for gas, also in Lee Vining and again in Bishop where we stopped for lunch. The scenery was spectacular ! The road was perfect for speeds in excess of the normal and we took advantage of the light traffic to enjoy the cool breeses and 8,000 ft passes with snow along side the road. A couple of Stuart gas stops in Kramer Junction and Needles led us to decision time ( it was 9:40 pm ), do we stop and spend the night or continue home? We pressed on to Parker, AZ for , of course, Stuart's gas stop and supper. With a full stomach and a perfectly full moon we hit the back roads that joined I-10 into Phoenix. Exactly 17 hours from Reno I arrived home at 4:15 am. It took 84.9 gallons of gas that cost $204.89 to drive 2.020 miles. I learned that when you drive with the big dogs ( Stuart's 351 C ) I spent a lot of time visiting the gas station rest rooms - what else is there to do while waiting for Stuart to get gassed. It was a trip of wonderful memories and new friends. John
