Research for my Cobra kit
Hello all, I am a Mesa resident trying to decide on an engine and transmission setup for a Unique Motorcars 427 kit. Decisions, Decisions, big block, small block, tremic or toploader. I think I would like to meet you all at Tortilla Flat on the 18th. so I could get some Ideas on a set up that would be right for me. I'll keep an eye on this thread to make sure its a go for the 18th. Cant wait!

Ted G.
If you want a great driver, get a small block with a 5-speed. 327 gears.
No regrets. You can add dual 4 bl carbs and FE valve covers for "the look" if that is important. A 351 or a 5.0 roller cam w carb is a trouble-free setup that "looks right" under the hood, in my opinion.
If you want a "show car" or a purely "period correct" car, then FE w top loader.
Choices, choices, decisions, decisions,....
Meet us at the gas station, someone will have an empty seat. Then at Tortilla Flats you can get 20 opinions. Makes your decision that much easier...(ha)

Thanks Dave
I'll be on the west side Saturday night but would really like to check out your car sometime. I actually met Gordon Levy today and it sounds like he has ALOT of experience with Cobras. I think I am leaning towards more of a stock build too.

Ted, I had Gordon build both my cobras. Both had a few little things added thoughout the build. I will be at the TF run also if you would like to take a little ride. It will have the hard top on also.
The best way to really "feel" these cars is have Gordon take you for a spin on the track sometime. One of the best rides was with him at that track out on 115th Ave Camelback before it was shut down. This was in my old blue car, not the one I have now. I was looking at the speedo and it said 130. It was like he was out on a sunday drive...then we got black flagged for being too loud. What a joke that was...and we really weren't that loud. There was just a bunch of democrats whinning about noise or something not to mention the Jets flying over.....See my gallery if you like. Car is running dam nice right now...

Ted, if you are on the Northwest side Sat night there is a cruise in at the Safeway Parking lot, 83rd Ave and Lake Pleasant Parkway in Peoria. About 400 cars (hot rods) show up. Last week saw 6 cobras with several motors: 460, 351W, 351C, 302, Rousch 327 and a Donovan 542 (yup, a Chevy).
