Angry Beware the "plink...clunk"

When I was driving the car a little while ago, I noticed that I got a noise like a piece of gravel hitting the splash guard when the front end unweighted on the crests of hills (gotta love Pinnacle Peak road! ). Strange "plinking" noise that happened at least a dozen times. Now the last time I drove, the noise was working itself into a soft "clunk". I've checked and double-checked and nothing is loose that I could see. Very odd.

If anybody sees a red Cobra on the side of the road on your way to the party tomorrow, please stop and give a hand...

If you hear a sound like "ker-plunk", then you have a major problem..

I also hear that a "Tat, Tat, pew, pow" sound is not good either. If we see ya we will be sure to tell Hursh that you'll be awhile...

Murphy,

I see that you have an FE with a Mass flo, how do you like it? I'm going to build me one soon for one of my customers.

Bill

SInce I am considering putting a Mass-Flo on my FE as well I echo Bill's question. How do you like it and did you do the installation yourself?

Unhappy Found the plink!

I pulled the pass front wheel today and I think I found the cause of the noise. It looks like my coilover spring is deflecting and rubbing on the adjuster ring. If you look at the pics in the links below, the white areas are the wear areas. I'm not really sure what to do about this. I'm going to call FFR on Monday and see what they say.

Well, FFR's initial response is that this is normal wear. They said I should just grease the heim joints on my shocks and get drivin'. I sent them some pics to look at so we'll see if they have anything else to say once they check those out.

I guess I need to change my screen name to Mr. Plink.

Smile Mass Flow EFI

Sorry for the response time delay. The Mass Flow EFI is fantastic. EZ to install, well made, good instructions and the customer support from Chris is great. I put the system together and after talking to Chris because of my inability to follow clearly written instructions. I got the engine running and the final timing set in one hour. Half of the hour was wait time with the power to the computer disconnected to allow the module to reset itself as part of the process. I am putting together another car for a co-worker and from start to finish I put the entire Mass Flow system on the car in 2 days with only some minor wiring clean up to yet deal with.

Starts like a new car, you can reach in the car and turn the key and it starts immedietly. WOW.

Wolverine, this might be a common problem. I have the same issue on my rear setup with different car, different springs, different shocks.

Well, after lots of back-n-forth with FFR, I've ordered a new adjuster sleeve for my pass front coilover. They're convinced that there's nothing wrong with the spring and it must have been cocked a little bit when it was assembled. I don't think so but it very well could be. I'm not a pro-builder so mistakes can happen.

We left it that I'll put everything back together and see how it goes. If in another 500-700 miles I have the same issue, then we'll look into replacing the springs.

DaveR - not sure if you're still watching this thread but if so, how many miles did it take for you to get some wear? They did say wear was common but not as severe as mine is and in the short amount of time that I've been through.
