When the original designer produces an identical car that is an exact copy of the original ,it is not a replica. If Shelby were to produce original Cobras having AC make the bodywork and using the identical specs, that would not be a replica either. That would be the same car just as if General Motors made exact copies of a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette race car. It would be a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette period. The fact that it is made today would make no difference, it would be what it is. If you only planned to use it on a race track, it would be the identical car to the original, tech spec car and would therefore be legal and welcome at all Vintage events including FIA events if it was type approved at the time(1957). The same is true of Shelby's aluminum continuation Cobra's , Jim Hall's 2E cars and the Cheetah's which we are speaking of here. If anyone else makes a copy of the car and it is not authorized or built in the same way it is not welcome at a vintage event like VARA or General Racing, LeMans vintage events, etc. That is why Shelby CSX cars can run in Vintage events and Superformance, factory five etc are not welcome. I think that there is a general misunderstanding on the topic, so there is a clarification. Now , can we go back to our tour? Thanks

OK.
...but that's not the case here, it seems.
From their website:
"...with my consent, BTM LLC of Arizona has full exclusive authority to reproduce the original Bill Thomas Cheetah..."
-Bill Thomas
Seems more like a licensing deal than "the original designer produces..."
When the factory burned down...that was the end of "original" Cheetahs.
The new stuff is what homage is made of...
But, it is very cool that Vintage regs have changed to allow modern "recreations" to participate... that will very much help the sport.

Now it's clear!
But why are the CSX-4000 (Continuation/ REPOPS) cars worth 100,000 and the ORIGINALS worth 600,000+ Since there all the same? Would you think it had something to do with them being built in the 60s and ORIGINALS built at AC cars?
And not by I need Your Money For My Hart Fund and i build replicas Too but there not
replicas because i said so C Shelby...
The last time i checked it was 2007 not 1964 and no matter how hard you try it's a replica!

Having not seen one of their cars in person, I can't speak to the quality. Someone please take pictures! If this is a true reproduction of the Cheetah, that's great news. But I have been hearing about these guys for about 2 years and there hasn't been a single car photographed that I am aware of.
Also, I don't know if Bill Thomas has truly authorized these cars. I know he was a very private man and had put the Cheetah behind him a long time ago. If he has put his blessing on it, wow! Kudos to whomever did that.

Its a 90 inch wheelbase and the front suspension consisted 1962 Cheavy HD spindles using tubular control arms connected to the chassis with Heim joints and special Monroe coil over shocks. Rear suspension was a modified Corvette IRS (using a special aluminum Posi unit) located using trailing arms., same shocks and drum brakes all around. Another unique point to the Cheetah was that it did not use a driveshaft. The engine (Chevy 327 FI) was mounted so far back the differental bolted right to the tranny with one universal joint. 27 cars were built in total, two aluminum and the rest in 'glass, before the factory burned to the ground and ended production.

Shell Valley makes a Cheetah Replica. I have seen them. Looks like a nice, fun car. With a hot SBC in, it would fly!
