Cheetah Open House, Saturday, Jan. 20th
Hi guys, All of the Arizona Cobras are invited to attend a Cheetah Open House on Saturday, January 20th, at 1123 E. Curry Rd., Suite 3 & 5. The factory rep. from Illinois will be there, he is Ron Keck. The local man is Box Auxier. The location is in the business park site where Gordon Levy used to be: Scottsdale Rd. north of I-202 and east on Curry for about 2 blocks on the south side. ( For Mikiec only - Mike disreguard those directions, for you, I'd suggest that you drive south on I-101 to I-10 and turn right. Continue on I-10 until you come to the first Quartszite exit. We will meet you there. Wait for us. ) The meeting time is 10:30 am. I would guess that 30 to 45 minutes would be enough to see the operation and ask questions. Then we'll do lunch. I understand that a couple of you will be at the auction, perhaps you can get free to join us for lunch. See you on the 20th. John

John, that Mikiec line is funny!!!!. Wish I could make it. I loved the Cheetah back in the day. Even now the basics of short wheelbase and lots of power in a rear wheel drive are welcome. Doesn't that sound familiar?

Hey everyone, down here in Tucson the weather forecast for Saturday is not good, 30 to 40 % chance of rain and high of only 59 degrees. Right now it looks like only a couple of us will make it up there, ( and not in our Cobras). John

Glad to see this is still going on. I'll be there sans cobra as my back went out last week and I'm not even sure I can get in it much less drive it. See ya there.

yeah it sucks. Just barely able to walk for 2 weeks. This is really getting old. Seen my chiro twice a day for the first week. Some relief but not much.
Good thing I don't have to work for a living.

What is the Cheetah? Is it that three wheeled thing, or is it a cobra kit or something like that?

It's a pure racing machine that wiped up on the Cobra. John

Here is a brief recap of what they have there: This is their manufacturing facility. They build the chassis, 4130 chrome moly, the fiberglass body, thicker and better than FFR, and assemble them in two buildings. The chassis is tube with aluminum floor and side panels, Woodward rack & pinion, wheel base is 90". Weight is 1,550 lbs. Basic engine is a Chevy 350 with dual quads. They offer both a roadster and a coupe. If they sold it as a kit I would buy one today. They had plenty of personnel there to answer questions and a positive attitude. It was nice to see the Phoenix guys again. I'm looking forward to the next event. John

My buddy Dan and I got there about 2:30 after mucking about at Boozer-Jackson. Nice workmanship and nice people to talk to. Sorry we were too late to hook up with the others that showed. Weather permitting, I'll be doing the drive up to Christopher Creek next Saturday. My sweetie says she'll go along, but I know how that goes if its a little bit nipply out. Has anyone called Creek Side to ensure that they'll be open? Would hate to get stuck going to the other place.

So, how much does a Cheetah cost? And do you think the price is in line with the cost of similar cars?

The lowest price that I heard was in the low $80's. There was one that could be purchased and taken away today but the price was a bit out of line at over $120,000. My impression is that they want to build and sell on the idea that it is a "Cheetah Continuation Collectible" aurhorized by Bill Thomas. It is NOT a kit car. Based on the present exhaust system and lack of interior insulation it would be a rough ride any day any where. This is a race car.

I was there and agree with John. "This is a race car". The exhause rapes over the driver's foot box and along the left calf. I can emagine it will cook your lets Yep, would be a great track car but forget about driving to Knotts. The Sales rep told me the target base rate was $110,000. I think it's a litte to high for the average "joe".

OK, I understand it's a race car and it's not for the average Joe. But nobody has commented on whether it's worth what they're asking for it. Compared with similarly equipped replicas of vintage race cars, does the price seem low, reasonable or high?
