3 replaced glass windshields later in my Lister, I went to polycarbonate (aka Lexan) and have not looked back. Its been on the car for 3 plus years now and I have not had any issues, even with scratching. It has even taken some pretty good hits at the track on occasion.

I bought a 4'x8' sheet (not scratch or UV resistant) for around $100 at Laird Plastics in downtown Phoenix and just used my old cracked windshield to make a poster board template and then cut it with a jigsaw. I figure I can also cut another 3-4 windshields out of what remains if it ever gets scratched.

Every vehicle I have owned in the 35 years I have lived here has had multiple windshields, I think the rocks must be softer down in Tucson.

Here's a "windshield replacement" procedure post I made back in 2001 after a rock took out my windshield and I decided to convert to Lexan.

windshield replacement

BTW: After 5 1/2 years and 18K miles and a number of rock hits that would have for sure sent me looking for replacement glass, the Lexan windshield looks as good as it did when I replaced it. I noticed the note I originally included regarding wipers well, I've used my wipers a number of times and no scratches. I just make sure my windshield is clean if I expect to use them. Also I use Rain-X which has to date had no affect on the Lexan or on the coating.

Wow ! Great comments about Lexan. If I ever need to buy a new wnidshield I will go with the Pro Glass that Bravoj speaks about. Thanks for the wonderful and useful information. I hope that the rocks continue to stay soft here in Tucson. John
