Title and Register in AZ
Hello everyone,
I am the proud new owner of an Avis Blue BDR 501 with the Roush 427R motor. It should transport from Custom Cars today. I live in Queen Creek, Arizona. I know that you can title and register the car as a 65 Roadster in Arizona. Is there anyone out there that has titled and registered there Replica in Arizona. Any tips for do's and don’ts including the process would be greatly appreciated.

I just took mine through the MVD site at Scottsdale and FLW blvd. No problems at all. Handed them the MSO from FFR that calls it a '65 Cobra, showed them the matching plate on the frame and that's what they wrote down. 'Inspection' consisted of asking what color it was for the description and taking down the milage. Cost me $28.75
I know of a few others that have been through the same location.

I went through the same MVD office in Scottsdale. Everything went smooth but the day after I got a call from the MVD saying they had screwed it up and I needed to come back and bring my title. They had used the serial # on my Kirkham and they wanted to assign a new AZ serial # and affix a serial # plate under the hood. They did all that and I was on my way again. My car is titled as a 1965 although it was built in 2004 and that saves a bunch of money. Look at this comparison:
2006 Ford GT-titled as 2006-price=$166,145-2 year plate fee=$5500
2004 Kirkham 427 S/C-titled as 1965-price=$110,000-2 year plate fee=$36
Gotta love those "OLD" Cobras!!!

Wow, they really did mess that up not doing the VIN sticker the first time. Glad you got it straightened out.

Thanks everyone for your help and input to Maricopa, Chip and especially Mike, Gordon was a great help and resource. It appears I need to get a Level 2 inspection and a possible VIN assignment. I am told it should be painless. Wish me luck.

I and Craig went to the Greenfield MVD. I needed a level 2 and Craig needed a Level 1. Take ALL your paperwork but only give them what they ask for. Don't volunteer anything else. You will be better off that way.
Good luck

Registration Update
I went to the DMV on Greenfield on yesterday and needed only a level 1 inspection. I had the historic vehicle plates in hand when all of the sudden the DMV employee noticed that the date on the MSO said 11.1.2007. In which she interpreted as November 1, 2007 ( As if the car hadn't been built yet). I explained to her and showed that the MSO was from South Africa and explained that in Europe, Africa and other countries besides the USA they use a different date formats as explained to me by Frank Dodd from BDR. This would mean the 11th day, of January, 2007. Neither she nor her supervisor believed it. So now I need either a new MSO or a letter from BDR stating the date format difference between our 2 countries. Not a problem just more waggery. However on the bright side I did get temporary registration good till August. Nothing is as easy as it seems.

The United States is the only country in the world that does the numerical date backwards. Every other country does the date in size order day, month, year. It was one of the hardest habits to break when I moved here... Along with it being the only English speaking country that calls the letter "Z" zee. After 13 years I still can't do that one, it sounds very odd to me... The person at the DMV is a moron, I would be glad to go over there with my passport which has the dates in the conventional d/m/y and help her learn... Post here and I will send you my number, I am free on Tuesday...

How much do you charge the other days for 'DMV Consulting'? I'm going to try and get down there this week to switch over to a 1973 plate I bought on eBay. Wish me luck.
PS, what do they call the 'Z' in Canada?

It is pronounced Z in every other English speaking country (Australia, England, Canada,Kenya, India, even in French it is Z) , only the US says zee.. must be from the Dutch or German influence, very odd...

If you pay sales tax on the parts, you have no tax liability... If you buy the car from a private party anywhere in the free world, you have no sales tax in AZ ...only from dealers is there tax.... pretty cool , huh?

Yep, just like Steve said. I took my all paperwork which included the kit (bought from out of state so no sales taxes apply) and all the stuff from in-state which I'd already paid sales tax on, but beyond the MSO they asked for nothing.
