Default New Cobra owner here in Phoenix, Need info please....

Greetings All !

I feel like a little kid a few days before Christmas ! .... Only this Tuesday is "Christmas", and "Santa" is bringing my Superformance Cobra !
I purchased it used, and I need to know if I will have any issues with the Out-of-State Inspection (anything I should know ?) Also, what insurance company is the most "Cobra-Friendly" to insure with. (I would like the ability to drive it semi daily, to work, or wherever I choose, not just to shows. )
I look forward to meeting all the other Cobra people in The Valley, it appears that there is a really big group !
Thanks,
Curtis

Do a search on this forum for insurance and any other question you may have. You will get so much information. We have all had that feeling. Enjoy it while it lasts and do some training before going wild.

Out of state inspections are easy. Nothing special. Insurance wise, call your current company and tell them you want an agreed value policy on your new "classic car". They may be all you need. Value it at purchase price.
Welcome

When you go to DMV, be sure to use the office in Scottsdale. Near Bell Rd. and Scottsdale Rd. You should breeze through.

Thanks Guys, I was going to take it to the DMV @ 59th Ave, south of Bell Road, since it is a mile or so from my home...But I think you have convinced me to take it to the East Bell Road DMV.

Curtis...welcome to the valley of the heat, oh Sun. I moved here from SFO one year ago with California plates. Didn't have any problem at the DMV at all, it was pretty easy. When I got to the end of the process they asked me if I want to register for 1 year or 2. I said, "what"? One year or two was the same reply. I took the "daily double" and will avoid needing tabs until 2009.

Things are pretty quiet around here during the summer months. Things gear up in Oct and run all winter here. Most of the repairs/improvements to the cars are made during the summer heat.

Good luck with you SP.

Welcome! we were the newest member in AZ but I guess that only lasted a few weeks . On the insurance- I called several places and no one could even come close to my current statefarm insurance. $130 every 6 months, full coverage just like normal cars, drive it whereever and whenever we want and no real mileage restrictions. They say no mileage resrtictions but also said if they feel you are using it as a daily driver based on milage checkups they would have to chage the policy but my agent has never seen that happen to anyone. Let me know and I'll seed you my agent information if you need it.

Have fun with the new cobra!!

Just as a point of information, I also have State Farm and the same deal as Sidewinder770. It's special coverage as a antique/collectable. Oh, and the trailer is covered under the same insurance with the same coverage.

Thanks for the insurance info. I will probably add it to my Grundy policy that I have on my 57 Oval Window Bug (That has a 400 SBC with Nos) When I have more time to compare coverage and prices, then I can switch. The car should arrive tomorrow (Tues) around 6pm, I will be at MVD Wed. morning ! I can't wait to drive that car ! I look forward to getting to meet the Cobra Crowd here in The Valley. Thanks for the help !

I tried Grundy but got jerked around by them. Went with State Farm, it was easy and affordable.

I went to State Farm and got a very good deal also. I also got the historical plates for a 1965 AC. The price was $70 for 2 years.

Sounds awful cheap!
Has to be a catch..somewhere. Value of car too low? Deductible is 5,000 or something. How come so cheap!
I have compared my regular insurance with new companies wanting to quote but when you compare the small print stuff it doesn't add up in many cases. Nice to get it cheap but if you don't have your house, wife, other cars and dogs on the policy, aren't they higher?
Have fun driving and don't hit any coyotes.....

The $70 was for the plates. Not forthe insurance. The insurance was about $300 per 6 months with limited miles.

Anyone who doubts stae farms classic coverage should read this thread. I don't think you can see the pics without being a member but the car is a $125,000 69 camaro which was rearended! Total damage was in the $25,000 range. The owner had just got the car back on the road and was considering a change to Grundy (which has no mileage restrictions I believe). His state farm coverage was an agreed value if I remember correctly. The idiot in the truck had allstate and was found 100% liable.

the accident with pics

repairs and the check that was cut to him from state farm

he did have soem disagreement with teh adjuster, but in the end it was ll worked out

The $130 every six months was for a value of $55k. It's the same historic/collector car ins everyone else seems to have that's posted so far. The plates were around $60 for 2 years and it was a breeze at the Scottsdale DMV- no troubles at all.

Hi Guys,
Well, Grundy has unlimited miles, but you have no coverage if you are not taking it to an event (can't drive to work, the grocery store etc) I wanted the ability to drive it to work, or where ever I wanted. (I plan on getting some use out of this car, I hate the idea of driving the vehicle that we love only to Pavillions, or a club event) I bought a State Farm policy with a 7,500 mile a year limit. I can drive it anywhere/anytime. $45,000.00 Value (figured it would cover the majority of my investment), $500.00 Comp and Coll., Zero Glass ded. $85.00 a month. I was refered to the nicest, most professional agent that I have ever talked to. (If I see that I am going to exceed the miles, I will revise the coverage, but I think that will fill my needs.)

WOW! Over $1k a year sounds pretty steep. You'll do much better with American Hobbyist.
