I have directions to John's home. If we want to do the treasure hunt, we need to be there by 10:00AM. Just lunch we should be there before 2:00PM.
Florence HWY south to Oracle Road. West to Golder Ranch Road. turn left. to Bowman Rd. turn left on Rugged Lark Dr. |
Gee, I wish I were there for this. Perfect Cobra weather in November. I remember driving to and from work on Campbell Avenue . . . lived north of Skyline past Los Companos de las Catalinas restaurant. I had some great drives on a neat road . . . back when there wasn't so much traffic.

Hey Tom, We'll hoist a beer for you. The weather forecast is a high of 84 degrees. I hope that you remember our clear blue skies and perfect sunsets. If you get back here please look us up. John
|
Dan, Thanks for the phone call this morning. A slight change in the directions - south on Oracle to Golder Ranch Rd. then east on Golder Ranch Rd. past Bowman to Rugged Lark Dr. and turn right, south. Looking forward to seeing you guys. The treasure Hunt is 20 questions about 20 locations in Tucson. It will take about 2 hours to complete, no trick stuff involved. The driving distance is about 35 miles from the farthest location back to my home. There will be about six locations in sleepy downtown Tucson. It's great to hear the Cobras roar echo off the buildings. Just give me a call if you have questions. John

We'll be there Sunday between 1:30 and 2:00 John.. Thanks for opening your home to us northern boys.. and girls.

John: I remember the clear blue skies alright. Traded clear skies for a good crosswind. Having flown many times out of Ryan Field, I appreciated the visibility. We kidded that anything below 50 miles visibility was IFR. Weather was alway severe clear. Just tried to get on the ground before the thermals kicked up and the guys at Estrella Air Park went sailing.

Rats and Drat!
I heard a loud snap from the front end as I was heading for my fifth pass at the drags today. Drove on to staging but the steering didn't feel quite right, so I eased the car back up onto the trailer and found a broken lower control arm bolt. My last run carried the left front wheel 60' and must have been too much stress for it. My trip to Tucson John's tomorrow will have to be canceled unless I can find a 9/16" or 5/8' x 8" , or what ever, bolt tomorrow morning. Doubt to have much luck on a Sunday morning but should find it Monday at Copper State Bolts. They've got about everything in the world of nuts and bolts. John, thanks for the invatation anyway. |
Karl, sorry to hear about your misfortune. We'll hold a few brats and some drinks for you if you find that bolt. By the way, what were your previous runs like ? John

Hi John, I turned 11.67 11.43 12.07 (went sideways and lifted) 11.28. All but the third at 117 MPH. I was going to hit the nitrous on the next run, but didn't get the chance. I was pretty disappointed but lucky the steering problem showed up in the pits rather than on the track. That could have been ugly.

Karl, we have friends down here who own a Ford Maverick, I think it is about a 1963. It has a six cylinder engine. She drives the car in lots of drag races around the Western states. Her best time is 10.96 and 110 mph. As you can guess the engine is not stock. He rebuilt the car this summer, had to install a full roll cage when she went below 11 seconds. It has the origional white paint and red interior. John

John...count on another two from Mesa. My wife and I will join in the drive down. Thanks for the invite.
|
I guess that makes 8 going south today. Maricopa and his wife, Dave from Mesa and his wife, Mike Brasfield and his wife and Danr55 and Linda. We'll meet as planned at the station on Idaho just north of Hwy 60 around 12:00 or 12:15 for a 12:30 lift off.
See ya'll there. |
