Got drenched coming home !

I know we live in the desert but starting to wonder about this it's a dry heat $h--. I jumped on the freeway to return home after the Xmas/ Marines Toy Drive. I had to slow down as I started to hydro a little but was able to keep enough speed to keep rain from dropping in cockpit. The water still sucks in around the wind wings and off of the sun visors to keep a steady stream also from windshield post holes as the rest blows over head. I have a puddle on each sides footbox.

The engine stumbled a little at lower RPM as rain entered the hood scoop so downshifted to buzz the engine a bit. I could see a stream coming off the fender mirrors so know it was coming down hard. Air cleaner stopped or misted what must have been the same stream pissing down on my footbox's. After about 5 miles had to exit freeway and a red light drenched me without speed to blow rain over the wind screen and made me hope for a short light so I could get moving again.

No more than a few moments after pulling into the shop the rain slowed to a regular rate. Timing is everything and I was off a bit on mine so got drenched but no harm no foul, the footbox's will dry sooner or later!!!!!!!

My jaunt of maybe 10 miles seems pretty wimpy compared to your trip. Are you talking about 3 or 4 years ago at Hersh's mud bogs and then driving back to Tucson? Mikiec... The rain slowed and then about stopped when I pulled her in so as always Timing is everything. Glad you got a break and missed it this time.

Can we say this is a lesson, or at least evidence to purchase a soft top. Plus makes we wonder about installing rubber plug/drain in foot boxes.

Our timing was off, too. We had less than 5 miles left to go when it opened up on us. It was my first time for that particular experience. I think I can get by without it.

But just in case, I've asked Santa for some Rain-X in my stocking.

On the return trip from the London Cobra Show last June our caravan drove 70 miles in the rain. From Cincinnati to south of Louisville. Most of the time we were able to maintain 65-70 mph. Coach had 1 1/2" of rain in his footbox. Coach's shoes and pants legs were wet but the rest of our cloth were dry. Most of the rain blows over you if you can maintain speed. I had a beach towel placed on the passenger side to catch the water dripping off the top edge of the door/dash. Bad door gasket. My G-Force tires performed great in the rain. I've got lots of pictures of us in the rain on several different occasions. Rain and open top cars go together like peas and carrots.

Hi Dwigth, it's good to hear from you. Yesterday we had our annual Christmas and Anniversary party and as you can tell it rained a lot. Even the guys who lived nearby and drove their Cobras got their cockpits soaked when the wind and heavy rain blew horizontally, the covered parking area provided no help at all. As you may guess, we don't get much rain here, 12 inches max a year, and Phoenix received over two inches over the last 36 hours. Saying that, our guys are not use to driving in the rain, however, we occasionally get caught and really have some great stories to tell. Are you up for a drive to Key West in June before the LCS ? Wolverine, The Rain X goes on the windshield. Not in your stocking. Then again, you may have a point, my feet have certainly gotten soaked numerous times from the rain coming in the opening where the steering shaft goes thru the footbox. I may just give that a try. John

Vettester, Congrats on the Marines Award. The longest that I have driven in continious steady rain was from south west of Columbus,Ohio, to our son's place near downtown Boston, Mass. I spent over ten hours in the rain, the worst part was at night with the semi trucks splewing water and the visibility about 100 yards. The rain certainly puts a dampner on ones mood. But the stories that come from it are worth it. John

Hey John, glad to hear from you. Have you worn out your new Cobra? We get about 55 to 60 inches of rain in a normal year. This year we are behind about 20 inches. A drive to Key West? Maybe? Email me a month in advance and I'll see if Coach wants to go. He is build a Daytona Coupe in my shop. Air conditioning, heater, top and windows. That is an all weather road car.

Living in Hawaii I get to share your experience every now and then. You can
head to one side of the island without a cloud in the sky and by noon you know you might just wash the car and yourself on the way home. As long as I can
keep it over 50 and get no stop lights, not bad. I keep a small towel to hold
by the wind screen to stop the water running around it to my left knee which
works fairly well. Not worried about the cat rusting, or me either, for that
matter. If I have to stop somewhere, or well. At least it is warm!

Hello All, The rain was coming down at a good rate but at freeway speed it blew over the car keeping the cockpit fairly dry. Car began hydroplaning a little as rain increased then it really came down hard. My vision instantly decreased a bunch as the real hard rain started and everybody slowed to about 20 MPH. Thats when I got wet! I exited the next ramp and a light stopped me completely. Only 1 more full stop at a light and I made it home and then the rain lightened up to just a soft rain.

Thanks all for your stories and sharing a laugh. I hope our young Marine still has a smile and is sharing stories about his ride, too.
