Default I like popcorn

I like to stir the pot, sit back, eat popcorn and drink cold beer. Like I said you will find many different views here. You can also find tons of info on just about anything Cobra too.

Its so funny how some folks tell you that if you aren't putting a 427 in an SC Cobra you shouldn't build it, must be built to suit them. Just ask them for a donation to the "Lets build Nester's Cobra Fund."

Tim, you home yet....what did you decide on? Just for fun, pick up one of the books on the history of the Cobra, lot of fun stuff in there. Build what ya want and have fun, I have an old local made Cobra here, one of four built, and its got an in line 6 just like the original ACE except its a GM Holden. Ton of fun, slow but loud. I'm building a Hurricane now with a SBC 350/350 combo. Not building to sell, we all hve our reasons...what a gas....time for more popcorn...ken

Tim, are you stirring because you enjoy stirring it or are you curious for real? The Cobra didn't start with Carroll Shelby. It started with AC cars of England. Shelby brought it across the pond and made it the fasted production car in America. The difference between the 427SO and the rest of the FE motors is clearances and manufacturing tolerances. The SO is in fact an FE block. Output in HP and Torque between the 427 and 428 motors, are not explained by the differences in manufacturing tolerances. There are also differences in Cam and crank shafts, head configuration, fuel delivery. It is my understanding from many sources that the majority of the production 427 cobras actually had 428 motors in them. So, while I agree that to be correct, you should use one of the Ford motors, it's your project. You do what makes your bell ring. I've often wondered what one of these cars would do with a small (345ci) Hemi motor.

Live and let live...but the next thing you know some creative thinker will be putting a Toyata V8 in a Corvette. Let's see who gets there feathers ruffled over that one?

Me, I am just glad I have the opportunity to hang with such a diverse crowd that can get together and throw a few barbs every now and then. By the way I think one of the kit car builders is considering replicating the Ford Cortina and the Chevy Monza.

Some of these little light weight flyers have propelled a couple of UK and Aussie Cobras. There is a Hemi powered Cobra in the UK also, fills up the motor space for sure....Note that Tim started this thread a year ago, was hoping Tim would chime in on what he decided.

I would recommend a Chevy Vega 4 cyl. aluminum engine, light weight, good revs and wont melt ... too soon. And not bad torgue numbers for a 4 cylinder.
