I have 19K on the motor and about 70% of them hard track miles. It started as an oil leak and turned into a re-build. The engine was fine, running strong when I pulled it apart. I am glad that I did because I found 2 issues that needed to be dealt with.
Mikec, after having a big block there is no way I could go back to small. I like power! I am going to install across over on the rear of the intake to help with the cooling....
might see you in globe on Saturday...

Steve, the Rte 66 fun run is a blast. Here is the website:
http://www.azrt66.com/funrun.htm
We, as a group of cobras, leave Phoenix on Friday early afternoon and drive up through Prescott to Chino Valley for a pit stop, then up to I-40 at Ash Fork. You then have the choice of driving 20mi to Seligman for the Friday fun or right 20 mi to motel in Williams and start drinking. We dinner as a group and gather after in the parking lot to pick on each other and drink.
Saturday morning we brush the snow off the cars and breakfast as a group at Dennys then head to Seligman to sign in/up and get in line. At about 10am (maybe 9am?) they release 900 cars on 1 road to Kingman. Several fun stops then after checking into motel in Kingman Car show downtown. 1000+cars. Great show. Lots of things to do/see/eat. Then back to motel to drink and walk to dinner. Then gather outside (bring your chair) again to pick on each other.
Sunday gather for breakfast in Kingman and head to Oatman (fun little tourist trap town) and on to end.
Lots of comraderee, carrousing and cobras. Just don't hope to win a trophy.
AZ Bob with 6 years of Rte 66 under belt.

well this sounds like one of the more fun trips/cruises posted on CC. Not too organized and lots and lots of driving and socializing!
Have a great time and watch that snow!!

Kristen,
I'de been doing the fun run for 8 years now. It is a blast. Everything and anything you want to see automotive it's there. My favorite so far has been a 1908 Oldsmobile. Generally around 800 to 900 cars of all sorts make the run.
This portion of Rte 66 is the longest continuious stretch left.

Stuart or Dan
I have an empty seat if either of you would like to join us in the Route 66 Cruise. Just bring your Depends. I also have rooms reserved with extra bed so your expenses would be minimal.

Mike, I'll do that. If, however, things work right, I should have a car by then and be back in the saddle.

Car is running, Barb and I are going to leave early and meet Tan-man on the way up. We want to do a little sight seeing before the gang hooks up with us at Williams....
Have fun!

This has the makings of a real good time.
Remember, Mike B will be our virgin on this trip.

Bob, I messed up, I mistook this thread for the one going to Knotts/ Hunington Beach. I will not make the Route 66 trip but I am looking for a room in California for the Knotts / Huntington Beach trip.

Not the sheep again, last time they made such a mess and ate half the luggage. But the night was interesting, I digress....
Fresh blood, it will be fun. I can say that it has been a while since the last time Barb and I were out, so hold on to your hats we are going to have a good time! (PS open road trips are not for the weak at heart)
The drive is breathtaking and the friends are just as good!
We feel blessed that we picked the rain-gear and pocket warmers at the X-mass party last year, the rest will suffer!
Have fun!
