Tom, I had the same problem with my chrome thermostat housing. I placed it upside down in a vise and took a long flat file and flattened the base as best I could, then put it back on with gasket, "O-ring" and Permatex. No more leaking. I took the oportunity to change the thermostat as long as it was off.

Thanks Bob. After looking around here for parts, and giving up, I did exactly that. The water neck is now on, curing. We'll see in about an hour if it holds. In the meantime, there's a nice billet one on order for when it leaks again. I'll drive it down tonight if it holds water. It will no doubt, as it's only a puny 515hp small block.
Just couldn't bring myself to install the NAPA "MADE IN CHINA" cast iron commie-looking pos on that beautiful engine.
