All is well. Made the trip in about 5hr 20 min with a 15-20 min stop for lunch at Love's in Buckeye. I fueled up and looked at the temp gauge and didn't even bother to try to start it, just pushed it about 50 ft into a parking space and went inside to get a bite to eat and cool myself off.Got home around 12:30pm.

Paul,
Have you thought about putting a heat shield around the starter?

I have a starter heat wrap on it now. I talked Gordon on Saturday at HB he recommended a 1993 Mustang GT starter which I'll pickup later today. Also going to pickup a O2 sensor and fix that issue by this weekend.

Hi Mikiec, I arrive home at exactly 8:00 pm. Once I left you guys I made it non-stop the 248 miles home, averaged a tad over 70 mph and drove right thru downtown Phoenix. Hey Paul, it took me 10 hours to get home !!! I have to re-think traveling with Mikiec and ( GPS ) Lyle again. Mikiec can't wait to get to the next stop to eat and Lyle looks forward to getting lost with his GPS. I would have won the longest distance award twice if I had drive there with Lyle, he and his GPS got them lost going there also. As for my wife meet your ladies - I don't think so. You're just too wild a group.

John,
We just wanted to show you the true meaning of cruising... Besides. Isn't 70 on your speedo something like 95.
The girls will contact Aida for the next shopping trip. They have said so.
Don still thinks his chairs are at the mall.
Tom, What's wrong with yours? Mine is overcharging.

Spent a day of quality time - doing the annual, lots remaining. The alternator crapped out this morning. Ammeter buried (+), but I wasn't worried - it's a Lucas, so that's probably normal...but then it shot back to zero, and then showed only zero or a discharge. I checked all the cheap stuff first, all was ok, so I took the alt. to NAPA in Wickenburg, where they had a replacement in STOCK! I was shocked. Works fine, but now have a water neck leak - that SVO chromed POS warped - bad. That's two, and I'm done. Ordering a billet one with an O-ring seal from Summit tomorrow, so might have her back on the road by Friday. Not sure if I'll make it to 66 cruise, but might if I can find a room, or just get up really early on Saturday and see if I can catch you at breakfast - not that far from here, and I won't have to scrape snow.

You can have my reservations if you want them. It doesn't look like I'm going to make it. I've got a reservation at the usual places in Williams and Kingman. Let me know or I'll call and cancel them.

Dan, what do you mean not going?
Tom, Took the alt in and it passed the tests. The shop recommended I replace the connector. Still seems to be over charging. I'm taking the cobra over and have them test the battery while it's in the car. Takes to long to remove it.

Mike, between the money issue and the logistics involved with Linda, I think it will be easier to just put the car in a trailer and haul it back to Arizona. That's what I think right now. Not to say that won't change between now and Friday. We'll see.
Take thier advice about the connector. After almost a year of fighting with my voltmeter, I finally traced it down to the through firewall connector. Once I bypassed the connector and straight wired the alternator to the battery, the problem went away.. just in time to get the car wrecked. CRAP! I'm still angry about that I guess......

Dan,
I understand. If you are going to cancel you need to give the hotels a 48 hr notice.
I have replaced the connector.

Thanks Bob - I'll take you up on it - I'm waiting on a part that I hope comes in by Friday, so it's not certain I can make it Fri. night. Summit usually ships pretty quickly, and its coming from Sparks NV. If it doesn't come in, maybe I can put on a new standard water neck. Going into PHX tomorrow and can probably find something at Lopers or somewhere. No more of that SVO chrome junk - they warp every time. (I think aluminum water neck will be the ticket on the aluminum head.)
Will youse guys be at 5 'n Diner tonight? If so I'll try to come down.
Tom

Thanks for the offer, Dan. It looks a little iffy as of now, and Bob has offered to share a room - so don't delay cancelling your reservations.

Gotta watch those shops when they're over charging!
Mine's the single wire/internal regulator kind. So when the regulator goes, you get over charged and under charged at the same time. Replacing the alternator fixed some problems I've been having since day one, but wasn't sure it was the alt. until it completely failed. In fact, I've been wary of driving at night with the ammeter acting strangely. Heck, maybe I'll try to find a part in town today and drive it down to 5 n Diner tonight. That way I'll know if I can go Friday to Williams.
