Default Going to DMV tomorrow - last minute advice?

All,

I searched and read as much as I can I think I'm ready. I plan to go to the baseline DMV between Greenfield and Val Vista in Mesa.

I have:
The kit invoice
A metal tag epoxied to the x frame with the FFR number matching the MSO
The MSO
The records for the Donor purchase
Several recipts for the build parts but not all.
Proof of Insurance
3 day permit so I can drive it there.

I expect I go inside to start
then get the car inspected (match tag to mso)
go get title, vin and reigster
It will be titled as a 65 roadster??
Title will be as a SPECON?

Anything else? I feel like I'm preping for D Day, I hope its actually a smooth transaction.

The MVD in north Scottsdale is where I go. (4 cobras) They treat me like a VIP. Larry is the inspector you want since he is very familar with the cobra replicas and will get it registered as a 1965 cobra Sp constr.
Call me if you want. 480 585 2980.
Good luck, John

I went to the Greenfield office and it was smooth sailing. $28 dollars and 2 hours later, I was good to go.

I suggest you start out back first. Stop in to the inspector first. He will provide you with the paperwork you will need inside. He's seen many of these cars and knew what to do.

Register it as a '65 car and you will save $. Likewise, when asked for value by both the inspector and the individual inside behind the desk, shoot low. No need to brag. This determines your fees and tax.

I'd also suggest you have all your paperwork in a folder, ready to provide what they ask for, but don't provide more than is asked for. Last thing you need is a bureaucrat asking questions because you provided more than you needed to.

Good luck.

Mike,

Keep us posted on the process. We have a number of newbies getting ready for the process.

Remember:
no speaky till spoken to.

That's the MVD I went to and it was a piece of cake to go thru. Agree on going to the back first.
My reg says

year/make ............ 1965 SPCON

body style.............. RD

first Registered ...... 9/1965 (Don't get that at all)

Good luck and let us know how it went.

I went to the Greenfield office with my Red car and it is now registered as a 1966 Shelby Cobra...copper plate and all. $78.00 for two years. Absolutely start out back. Get the inspection first.

Everyone above is correct.

Get it inspected first, tell them you want it registered as a 1965 Ford Covertible, inspection will only be checking the vin and thats it, they didn't check any other part of the car.
Inside, don't provide any additional information other than what they ask for. The only thing they ask for from me was the value (shoot very low) and a certificate of origin (mine was a new kit).

That's about it painless and cheap!
Best of luck, Bill

I just registered mine yesterday in Glendale. Yes I went to teh back first as well. It took all of about 10 minutes. They checked the frame tag matching the MSO walked around the car and we were done. Then went inside and provided the inspection sheet along with MSO and proof of insruance and we were $75 for antique plates and we were done other than back to the inspection where they placed the new VIN tag on the door seal. Actually more painless than I would of ever thought.
