Default I have tags!

Thanks for all the advice. Overall the process was very easy

1. Level 1 - 10 minutes
2. Title / Reg - was going to be very easy until they found a second car in KY with my same VIN. This was a curveball and I did not handle well. They found the car and asked whats going on with KY and did I live there. I have lived in KY when small and I had and have family there. At this point they wanted to call KY and see about the second car with the same VIN. KY office was closed

3. I went home, posted my experience and decided to go back. I actually went to one of those 3rd party places in town that do tags and titles. I already had my level 1 inspection. I paid $53 for two years instead of $35 because of fees. Not bad. They also asked about KY, this time I said I dont know

So its reg as a 65 and life is good. I did my first real drive 20-30 miles and it drives great!

The money shot. I once spent a lot of time trying to figure out my personal tag for the car, now I'm just happy to have one!

MM
Congrats! Dropping the extra $18 has got to be well worth losing the aggggravation. Are you coming to Heber to hook up with the gang next weekend? Itsa good time. Mesa Dave is coming to my house for an 8AM lift off Friday. We're going to get the hot part of the drive over before it hits 190 You are certainly welcome to come along, if you want. I live close to Ellsworth and Brown.

Third party DMV's are the way to go..

Is it just me or are these new tags just plain ugly with taped letters/numbers?

Is everyone aware that in Arizona you can use a 1964 license plate ? It is blue with white lettering, similar to what Michigan has had the last few years. That may help get rid of the "flat plate" currently in use.

They also asked about KY, this time I said I dont know

Good move on the 'playing dumb' thing Mike!

John I think they have to be year of manu. or later. I know Pink has a '65 on his. I bought a '73 plate but haven't transfered it over yet.

If your Cobra is registered as a 1964 or 1965 you can use the 1964 plate because Arizona did not make a plate in 1965. It changed in 1966. There are quite a few 1964 plates out there at reasonable prices, $5 to $35, depending upon condition. Check on the computer first thru the AZ DMV and find out if that particular plate number is still good. Many of them are.

I've heard that there's a guy on the internet that will manufacture a "replica" plate, for any state, any year, in any letter-number configuration that is not already in use. I'd certainly check with the state to determine if the chosen plate number could be used or not. One of these days I'll get around to getting my "SSNAKE" on a 1966 plate since that's what my car is registered as, if the colors don't clash too bad with my copper paint.

The 66 plates are white with black numbers.
