From the Arizona Republic:
"A stranded motorist and a tow-truck driver were killed Friday morning when the driver of a heavy-duty truck plowed into them on the westbound Red Mountain Freeway near Gilbert Road in Mesa.
Sgt. Harold Sanders, a state Department of Public Safety spokesman, said there was no obvious explanation for why the heavy-duty equipment truck plowed into the back of the tow truck, which was parked in the emergency lane on that portion of Loop 202....
...The driver of the heavy-duty truck was in critical condition at a Valley hospital and was unable to explain to police why the accident occurred, Sanders said. Police have no suspicion of impairment.
'This is daytime and the weather is clear. It's not a construction zone. It's a straightaway,' Sanders said. 'There's no visual obstruction.' "
