Primary Election voting question

Off topic for Cobras

Hey Gang,
During the Primary elections only the candidates of the Party you are registered under are listed. You can only vote for the candidates of the Party you registered under in the Primary. Arizona has CLOSED Primary's or so I found on the net.

My question = Why is there a Write In space provided for a candidate for each office.

Danr55 09-02-2008 02:35 PM

Jeff, I won't swear to it, but I believe that is mandated by Federal Law. It provides for candidates who are popular with the people but did not meet the qualifications or did not file in time to get placed on the ballot. I'm going to do some investigation since you've opened this can of worms.. It might be fun.

I asked the folks at the polling place and stumped 8 people, everyone there. It was the thought that maybe just pre printed spaces but another pointed out the blanks were very deliberate. If a race had 3 choices there was also 3 write in blanks and so on. One of the volunteers confirmed AZ does not allow cross voting or a Dem./Rep. voting for a person not of their registered Party. Ballots are preprinted with all candidates for the Party printed for each race and you can not vote out of Party so we could not come up with a possible use of the write in spaces in a Primary Election.????
Anybody else think of a possible reason?

The write in is for the following:

Pat Paulsen
Snoopy
Garfield
Beatle Bailey

Found this: http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/...5680_db038.htm

That's to write in your own name.

vettestr 09-03-2008 01:23 PM

The short version is a write in name must be pre-qualified to be a write in name. If that name was pre-qualified it would be printed on the ballot and would not have to be a write in if within time limits ?????? This is from a 09/2004 found at link below to read all the story.

http://arizona.indymedia.org/mail.php?id=21593 Maricopa County Elections Director Karen Osbornetold "There were no official write-in candidates for that particular office. Because of that, the ballot of anyone who wrote in a name not recognized by our department wouldn't be counted."

Kevin Tyne, an aide to Arizona Secretary of State Jan Brewer. SAID "Write-in candidates are required to file with our office 40 days before an election,"

Of course this hard to understand. Some idiot in a small government office made this difficult. Screw them; if you can't vote for McCain and other conservatives make something up. Anything is bette then Mr Change. (What a joke)

Oh, wait a minute......It is for the Pittsburgh Steelers Fan!

Hello All,

Since you opened this can of worms, I'd vote with the 40 million folks that cannot vote as they were lost to 'choice'. Pretty much the same number of illegal immegrants we require to fill those jobs that 'no one wants'.

However as soon as they (immigration) raid a meat factory, we see gobs of American's in line for jobs at reasonable pay. I don't buy into the 'they do the job's no one else wants'. We just don't want American jobs at overseas wages, while the folks working under the table are draining our socialist system and all the while not paying taxes and being the biggest burdon upon our health care system, etc.

Cheers
Mike

PS. BOTH parties are at odds with our consitition as my dad always said. One party want's to control your mind and the other want's to control your wallet. Since you cannot control us cobra driver's minds, leave our wallet alone :).

I'm in Iowa for the last two years, Alaska for the 5 years before, Many years in AZ and WA before that.

My Mom and dad are AZ snow bird's and very policially active, so I'll post where ever it should be interesting. The only way you can control my thoughts is to kill me, you can limit my actions on this forum by banning me, but short of that Bo(o)b....here I post.

Cheers,
Mike

Well know, actually it won't be moved to the Lounge Ernie.

The fact that it asks a question concerning Arizona trumps the fact that it's a political question.

No worries...you can ask anything you want about Hawaii in the Hawaiian Forum.

Oh...nevermind. :p

Jamo 09-04-2008 11:00 PM

...on the other hand, if folks can't stay on topic and are illegal immigrants from other states...they will be deported.

Jamo 09-04-2008 11:02 PM

Ernie, leave this thread...

...or change your vote. :p

Jamo 09-04-2008 11:16 PM

Ernie...nudge, nudge

The question was one about HOW to vote, if it's now open to WHO to vote FOR, then the answer is obvious. Vote Obama! Try not to get sidetracked by the Arizona technical question, just vote Obama

LOL, from the one person that has a cobra and earns less than 12,000 a year.

Cheers,
Mike
