I think I'll take a swing by Central, Saturday night. There's a car show at a Sonic in Queen Creek that I'll hit first and then a buddy and I will probably drive on up to Phoenix. The Sonic is giving car people free burgers for a couple hours that night and several of us comitted to going. Free food? What's not to like. I'm betting there'll be plenty of police on Central. I haven't gone for a few years but the last time they'd swueezed it down to one lane in each direction and had a copper about every 50'. Just as well, it was getting too stupid with people stretching their burnouts into third gear with tons of people at the curbs. The crotch rockets doing 90MPH wheelies didn't help matters either. It was a disaster, just waiting to happen. Too bad because it sure was fun to hit the gas for a second or two and hear the echo off the tall buildings.

A cruise on Central! That brings back memories. I live in New Hampshire now but lived in AZ from 68-84. During high school in the early 70's I cruised Central almost every Friday and Saturday night. I had quite a few cars that I wish I still owned during that time. A 23 T bucket, 70 Boss 302, 396 El Camino, 69 Chevelle with a 454, 68 Charger with a 440, 65 Corvair with 327 in the back seat, 69 Cougar with a 390, and a lot more. I had 81 vehicles by the time I was 21!
In 77 I became a DPS officer and had to tone it down. Plus, on my salary I couldn't afford to feed my passion. I have just finished a scratch built Cobra using C5 Corvette parts. www.chesnutmotorsports.com if you want to check it out.
I am planning to start spending the winters in a few years in southern AZ. I'll be joining you for cruizes then. In the meantime have fun and be safe!! John

Danr, I'm planning on heading to QC about 5:30. Hook up at the usual Chevron, Brown and Ellsworth? The Sonic is at Higley and Germaine, East side of Higley, South of Germaine, or at least that's what my buddy told me. I'm thinking that we should be able to take the 202 to Higley and that Germaine is south of that. North or South, one way or the other. You know I like to take in the local scenery.

Karl, I have some things to do tomorrow and if I finish in time, I'd love to join you. Free eats is one of my favorites.. I'll call you in the afternoon and let you know if I'm close enough to finished to go play for a while.

Karl, Just checked. We're better off taking the 202 to Val Vista and then going east. It's about 1/2 mile south to Germain and 2 miles east to Higley. I should see you around 5:15 at the usual station.

How was it on Central? I passed this year so should I hit the next one or not. I agree it was getting out of hand with the rice bikes topping the list of going too far. Others were also getting very dangerous. I liked watching the bikes going by on the front wheel only or other stunts I've only seen in the movies. At the speeds they were going and how close to rows n rows of folks it was an accident waiting to happen. 2nd to harming or killing a bunch of folks is the bad press the Sport and Industry just does not need.

From maybe 20 feet away I watched a women get handed the keys to a full dresser bike for what must have been the first time in her life. She put it in gear and just her inexperience slide her back off the tank rolling the throttle on enough so she could not lower the rpm. She went from kinda running to face down on tank just before T-boning a parked 34 Ford Hot Rod some 250 feet in front of where she started. This had nothing to do with the Event it is just where it happened but I won't forget that sight for some time.

Hey Steve, Danr, Buddy Bob, with his '55 convert, and I left right about 7 to get up to Central before it got too cold. Sorry to have missed you. Which car did you take out? Haven't seen you around for a while. Going to do Tortilla Flats next Saturday? Plan on the party 12/6 and hope for dry weather. See ya.

Mike,
LOL.... I had forgotten about that but yep. I also remember the cops shaking their heads in disbelief. Wasn't the car she hit just put on the road that week? The owner was none too happy but much calmer than I would have been.

How was the deal last night. Did you all have a good time?

Default Central

Went by at about 6pm. Place was packed and people lined the streets. Didn't see too many cops. Let people do their thing. Not as many people north up to Camelback as before but nice. Few cobras there, dragster got a lot of attention. Dam Bumps in the main entrance messed few cars up. People started getting there at 1:30PM.
