Default ^&*@%sucking thieves

The morning after turkey day my neighbor knocked on my door to ask if I heard anything during the night. &^%(^ thieves had jumped his back fence and broken into his barn, fifth wheel trailer and one of his trucks. Rain the day before left footprints in the dirt that were easy to follow, follow right to our house too.

Thieves (two of them) jumped my wall and pried the door to an RV open, slim jim'd my Dodge truck and looked in my empty car trailer. Nothing of real value taken but made a mess and the RV door damage sucked. Cops found a few good finger prints but gave me little hope of a timely arrest. Officer was helpful, gave me a few suggestions and even thanked me for taking the time to report crime.

Last night or @ 2:37 AM my dog started to freak out and wanted out the back door real bad. I shoved my 357 in my waist band and shucked a round into a 12 gauge just as I heard somebody beating on my front door. It was the cops at the front door and learned a few more were in the 1st back yard area. A little awkward but secured the dog and weapons and let them in.

They were here to arrest me or verify the Dodge was mine. The crooks took my personalized license plate and installed a stolen plate on my truck. At 2 dark thirty the cops take the L. plate. They tell me not to drive truck until I apply for a permit to drive to DMV to verify VIN #'s. I must get a new plate as my vanity plate is now VOID and can not be re-issued until released by the courts. Never did get back to sleep.

That was a crappy situation. Here they had 5 cars and trucks broken into and mostly just destroyed inside in a one block area night before last. They did rip out a CD player and a couple of other minor things before moving to the next vehicle. My neighbor across the street had his back door kicked in and they stole two guns and ran out just as he came in the front door. My alarms for the yard came on last night and I got up and took my gun to look and it was just a patrol car cruising up and down the streets. Something about the lights or the white on them set off the IR & Motion detectors. They are watching the big house across the street as it has always been a doper & car theft hang out.

I am afraid it is a sign of the economy and will only get worse before getting better. The cops were pretty cool about everything and apologized for the AM wake up but pointed out they were working this pretty hard, more homes involved I think. Not to turn this political but I live in an area that has as many good guys carrying guns as the bad guys. It is sad to think that in some parts of our country most of the guns that do exist are in the hands of bad guys.

I almost fell out of my chair reading your post Stuart! Hmm.. Are you pulling my leg?? Correct if I'm wrong.. But most Brits are only allowed to have a single shot rifle or shot gun? Semi-auto's are not permitted? I have read many stories where Brits are sued and/or prosecuted for doing harm to criminals. The most recent story I read was a dog owner being sued by the criminal who broke into his barn or house! The dog chewed him up pretty good.. Here in Texas.. an unwelcomed visitor gets a 45 caliber round in the belly or some 12 gauge spray

Air rifles only here without license, single shot rifles and shotguns with a license and subject to Police check beforehand and a very good reason why you want one in the first place.
We have to rely on whacking the criminals over the head with a blunt instrument if the try breaking into our houses.

Then when the dog is busy take a baseball bat to the bugger. That should do
it! (Not one of those little billies.)

Why not go spend a couple hunders on some internet cameras and post them around your property. You may not catch them but at least you will know what they look like.

Default I'm with Texas

I think I'd stay awake in the back with plenty of ammo. I'll start with my Mossburg pistol grip shot gun, them open up with the AK-47. If and when I run out of munitions, I'll sick the Dobey and grab the baseball bat.

God Bless America!!

Bill

Default thieves

I keep a couple long guns arround, namely a saddle gun and a Colt AR15 with bananna feeders. A constable in a mid west state told me " remember those colt slugs at close range can go through the target and into a neighors house and oh yea make sure there are entry holes in their culprits fronts before you call us"

The cops thought they were tweekers and not Pro's because of what they went after and how they broke things. They did find some very good fingerprints for what little good that does. Cop explained they only use prints to exclude a suspect if ya will, they do not run them against the AFIS to identify and then go find that person. He explained there are just to many crimes and higher priorities.

Those cops really should have called first Jeff. I've had them show up at my back door before looking for 'trespassers' (Someone called it in and they went the wrong address ) and it can be rattling.

They took prints at a burglary I head about 15 years ago....nothing came of it.

I hope and pray we never need to carry firearms here in the UK.

Umm, have you looked at the crime stats for the UK over the last few years? You already should be.

Crime in the UK versus Crime in the US

"There is a discussion going on about gun control and the right to defend yourself over at A Tangled Web. Since my figures on crime in the UK versus crime in the US are couple of years old, I thought I would take a look at the currently available statistics.

The public misconception is that the UK is a safe country and the US violent, but the truth is just the opposite. Depending on which numbers you choose, the violent crime rate in the UK is five times higher than the rate in the US.

[Update - August 20, 2007: Lots of people don't like my conclusions in the post. Fair enough, you don' have to. Here are some other statistics - from the Times Online and the Independent, since you question the other sources here - that you might want to look at. And if you really don't believe the statistics below, point to better statistics.]"
