Default Help! Need air cleaner for holley dominator carb

I need to try to find a low profile round or oval air cleaner to fit a 4500 series 1050 Holley Dominator Carb. It is on top of a 514 crate motor in my superformance. The 14 inch filter that was on it is too wide (rubs under the hood scoop + the height - 3 inches is too tall) Anyone have ideas who would make an 11 inch round or oval low profile with the larger base plate to fit the 1050 Dominator? I have tried Summit and Jegs with no luck. Any solutions would be appreciated

Ron, Here is what I use:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
With my 1 inch NOS plate I cut 1 inch off of the top and bottom to fit under the air scoop sideways. Works great. Foam air cleaner doesn't even lessen hp on dyno. Checker auto carries them in their speed shop stores. The reticulated foam (like that word?) is available in rolls from certain craft stores so my replacement foam filters end up costing about 25 cents each. I paint them blue too!

4910, you could just buy the air cleaner and filter assembly you need that is designed for a 4150? Holley and use your existing base plate, couldn't you? The top and filter are not specific to one size carb, or another.

The one I have is a 14 inch round but I need an 11 inch or smaller to fit under the hood without rubbing. The one on summitt's website would be perfect other than the carb I have has a much larger base plate. I am wondering if I could cut my round base plate to fit the bottom of that filter. Does yours bottom plate have a lit around it that the filter fits in?
Thanks
Ron

A standard Holley carb has a 5-1/8" diameter carburetor inlet opening. Dominator inlet is 7 1/4 " so simply purchase a base or filter assembly that is for the Dominator series. BTW... here is a link to Ebay sale of a 14" Dom. filter assembly. You could cut a smaller diameter base to the larger size but the profile of most will not allow this change. Have fun Ron.

adding ... the link is for a 14" diameter and remembered you want 11" but the path would be the same and link will get you to correct area.

I used a extreme drop base I picked up at lopers. Also K and N filter top to squeeze in on my 4150. I did have to make a few cuts to the base. One more item, I used lowered motor mounts for more room.

You get an 11 inch bottom for a 4150 and any size bottom for a 4500. Cut the flange off each and weld the 4500 flange on the 11 inch bottom. This is what I did.
