Jan. 31st run to Tucson
I have visited two of the four restaurants in the area looking for good food, accomoditions for 40 people, and decent prices. The golf course at San Manuel can fit us all in and they will have two cooks on duty, their menu includes salads from $3.25 to $8.25, soup (bowl) and salad for $5.65 and a regular lunch sandwich menu from burgers at $5.75 to grilled chicken breast at $6.95. They have outdoor seating for about a dozen and a large warm fireplace inside. The second restaurant that I went to is Bub's Grub in Catalina. It is known for it's barbeque. I spoke with the manager and he will offer us a buffet of pork shoulder and beef brisket, corn, red potatoes, cole slaw, rolls, sweet pickles, and jalapeno peppers for $8.45. They also have all the soup and salad and Texas toast that you can eat for $6.75. This is a regular restaurant with a sports bar. I am also looking for a place to go for desert, pie, ice cream, etc. I'll have more info on the other two locations over the next couple of days. John PS. What kind of hungry will you guys be ? Do you want a big meal or sandwiches ? Soup or just desert ? I'll expect you'll be down here about noon, that is what I have been telling the restaurants. Keep me posted about what you want for lunch, if you don't, it will be my choice.

John, I'm not sure that it really matters where we eat as long as Karl gets Mexican, Mikie gets small portions, Broberg.. (he probably won't show up anyway).. You choose. We trust your judgement.

Will Karl settle for a Mexican waitress ? The golf course can make a couple of mexican dishes, I just called them. Bub's Grub ia all American except for the chili with tortilla strips.

I don't know about Karl, but I may consider a Mexican waitress if she is young, attractive, wealthy, intelligent, kind, loving, generous, and has BIG eyes.

And all we can get here in New England is 15 degree temps and snow. Sure wish I could 'Beam up there' for a day or two. A nice Cobra run would be just what the doctor ordered.

Bub's Grub sounds like a place where I could do some damage to their buffet. Those folks that didn't want the buffet could sit and wait for their food while I pig out on the pig and stuff. I'm sure I could get some hot sauce to liven up the BBQ to get a good sweat going.

Karl, After everything I've gone through to find you a great Mexican meal.. er uh I mean a great Mexican waitress, you would throw that all away for a buffet? Whatever. I'm flexible when it comes to grub.

A buffet... I like it. Karl, I'll tell you what I want, put it on your plate and give it to me. Don't worry I don't eat much.

I visited two restaurants in Saddlebrooke this morning and don't feel that they are low enought for our standards. The prices were between 8 and 12 dollars for a very basic sandwich or salad. While we coiuld have some privacy at one, at the other we'd have to break up into tables of four. At both, our cars would be scattered about in the parking lots. Neither one made homemade pies or desserts. I'll check one more place later today. The weather will be good with temps right at 70 degrees. I say that because the entire week it's suppose to rain with temps in the low 60's so the weekend should be good.

John,
As a former federal employee or something like that. Change to weather from bad to what you said.
Also, I prefer a cheap place yes that includes wine and women.

You have never found a "cheap place with wine and women" before so why are you putting the burden on me? Hey Dan, can you find something like that for Mikiec in the Mesa area ?

Must'a been in the bathroon. I haven't been to Mexico ( other than the cruise last October) in about 15 years. Ijust got so tired of the "Government Officials" hitting me up for $5 here and $10 there that I figured it wasn't worth it. I paid a $55.00 service charge just to fly my plane there and then the regular 5 and 10 dollar bribes began. Never again. South Tucson is 100 % cleaner than Mexico and it isn't all that clean, and they don't speak english either.

Hi guys, I just returned from looking at another restaurant which isn't too bad except for about 300 yards of dirt that must be traversed. This evening it was all mud with a lot of low spots which, if next weeks weather forecast comes true, it will be under water on the 31st. It is looking like we'll go to Bub's Grub for the buffet. However, things may change. Do you guys like pie ? What kinds ? If Karl needs a Mexican fix I can wear my somberro and go barefooted.

THe golf course in San Manuel sounds mexican enough for me. What about Saddlebrooke? Have you looked at that yet?

Hey Dan, I looked at two restaurants in SaddleBrooke, both have prices that start at $8 and go to $11. The parking at both is in normal parking lots, I doubt that we could get more than three Cobras parked next to one another. At one we'd have to sit at tables of four, this one has beautiful views of the mountains to the east and south,it is the restaurant for a golf course and tennis court area. The other has seating for us at two large tables but no views. Both have some outdoor seating but not enought for 30 to 40 people. There are four restaurants in Oracle that I'll check out next Tuesday, I know two cannot handle a group as large as ours will be. unless they have added outdoor seating that I haven't seen.

You're doing fine work John. I'm sure Karl appreciates the effort you are going through just for him. He might even buy your lunch as a way to say thank you for finding a place to eat and for the ice cream you'll buy him later this year.
