Default Copperstate 1000 April 4th, and 5th

Hi Guys,

There is a car show this year on Saturday and departure of the Rally cars is on Sunday.

Check out their web site at www.copperstate1000.com

I've attended in years past and always had a great time.

I have been aware of the Copperstate 1000 and will attend next year. This year I made plans to drive Hwy 1 down to Monterey CA.

You know that they won't let you drive a fake/replica/recreation/continuation not pre 1968 Cobra in the Copperstate, right? Just like Martin Swig won't let you do the California Mille... The CS 1000 is a vintage car event only...

Cool cars , not so cool people at the Copperstate - they wanted me to bring one of my cars but they are not my people - my wife isn't 35 years younger than me with a lot of aftermarket parts...

Also the entry fee is about 3 times the price of the Daytona 24 at $5500- kind of a lot for a drive in the country...

The event is free to the public, lots of very cool, very rare cars that are not seen in public very often. You can get up close to the cars and the owners that I have met in the past have been very friendly.
The fact that their wives have 'aftermarket parts' is a bonus because its usually a sunny day and they have their parts on 'display'.
The best part is when the cars depart. Million Dollar cars actually being driven.....kinda cool.

I may be mistaken but I think the car show is open to all cars. $30 or $35 entry fee. The Copperstate cruise is only open to originals at $5,500 entry fee.

I think both events are open to the public.....free admission! To display your car in the show $30 pre-reg., $35 day of show. I was told by a member of the Mens Art Counsel that on Saturday, some of the Copperstate 1000 cars will be on display inside the stadium.
I usually go on Sunday to see the cars depart.

I always wanted to know the difference between hand built cars from scratch compared to old metal cars that are factory built. Set up your own S,C Corporation; LLCs or whatever.

Just wondering if there has ever been a video showing a "real old" Cobra racing against a new fake, replicar that was hand built using modern engines and under the body parts? Who won?

This is going to be interesting......

Fitz, there was an article written about a year ago, I dont remember the mag title. But they pitted an original 427 street car against a 427 replica....don't remember the brand. Their conclusion was the new beat the old.....of coarse the Old had a tired 40 year old motor and the new.....well it was new. This was not a track comparison, just a seat of the pants road test through some twisty roads.
I think Maricopa may have the article?
