It would be interesting to see...

1. Has the rate of traffic fatalities and injuries declined?

2. Has the crime rate gone down now that the police are left to attend to more serious offenses?

I'm going to add my $0.03 to this thread. Regular postage stamps are $0.44 now.

DPS,who runs the cameras that we are speaking about, are basically AAA with a gun.THey are the "Hiway Patrol".Traffic is what they do.So in short-no to both questions.

Dave (ROUSHAC), Were you at the show in Columbus last weekend? Not to steal the thread but just wondering as we spoke briefly with a guy in a Cobra at a Western NY rest stop who was from Syracuse & coming back from the Columbus show.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Also, I thought the thread was getting a little heavy and needed a little (yes, very little) levity.

I'm pretty sure that was me, Fordzilla. I was trying to run in the gap between a couple of storms on the way home and had to stop once in a while as I would catch up to the storm in front occasionally (it was a slow moving storm for the speed conscious out there ). My car is the green one in my avatar, but the meatballs were not on it at the time.

As usual the car garnered attention when I stopped, and I spoke with a number of nice folks at most of my stops. It was actually a pretty nice drive. Those stops broke things up a bit.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

If law enforcement really wants to keep us safe and take advantage of the latest technology, surgically implant a web cam into sex offender's skull ( or just hammer the thing in) so we can see what they're up to. Of course, that won't increase state and local gov revenue.

I told you so, Jim. By the way, how many people are thrilled with the advice you gave them over the last year or so as a "Financial Services Rep."?

We are up over 10% for the first half of the year so far. I didn't want to rub it in but,

Thanks for reminding us.

You are incorrect sir. My "birddog" goes nuts every time I go by one. I am in Maryland.

biggest problem would be if some jerk who got ahold of this post turned you in - then a small $ ticket would turn into admitted bonafide perjury - yuck!

He would have to be in court for that to happen. And court is the LAST place the state wants these tickets to end up in.

REVISITED: A speed camera can be beaten by extreme speeds.

confirmed

The Mythbusters obtained a race car dubbed “The Beast”, which used a jet engine that could propel it to speeds of up to 300 miles per hour. In the first run, The Beast hit 245 miles per hour and managed to pass the camera so fast that it never took a picture. In the second run, the speed camera was slightly modified to account for the increased speed, but still failed to take a picture of The Beast, which traveled faster than the first run. Even though the speed camera was beaten, the Mythbusters pointed out that only specialized cars like The Beast could achieve those kinds of speeds and would therefore be very easy to find by the authorities.
