Labor Day Weekend
Danr, are you rigging up something interesting for Sat/Sun? I am off those days but work Friday AM and Monday AM.

Bob, The long talk of Drive Down the Coronado Trail is planned for Labor Day weekend. Leave Apache Junction around 9:30 and meet with the Tucson guys in Superior. Then proceed up through Globe and Salt River Canyon with a photo op on the north side. Proceed up to Hon Dah where we can fuel up and continue on to Greer for lunch at Molly Butler Inn. (The best Chili Rojo in Arizona) An evening in Springerville then continuing on down the spine of the White Mountains to Hannagan's Meadow then to Morenci and back across San Carlos to Globe. It sounds like a great trip. It should be cool enough that by the time we get home, the day should be just warming.
I need to let the hotel know by Friday so we can get the reduced rate of $62.00/room for 2 people. We need 12 folks for the reduced rate. As of this morning we have 5 so sign up either here or send me an email danr55@msn.com.

Provided it is Saturday and Sunday, sign me up. And thanks Dan for the extra effort. I don't care what everyone says about you. You're OK.
Home trip is a long one. 350 miles or so.

I always do The Run to The Pines in Pinetop and it is Sept. 25 & 26th this year. I will be busy getting ready for that run so will not be able to attend the Labor Day Run. That sucks cause I would like to do both runs but to close together for me. Have fun all.

I would if I could.
Ginny is still not capable of riding in the cobra. My fun money is used up or allocated for overnight trips for the rest of the year.
To all that are going.... Have a great trip. I want pics.

After much conversation with a couple of the guys going, I think we are rearranging the route. Since the drive from Apache Junction to Springerville is a long haul. It's been suggested that we would do better if we made that leg on day 1 and the short return on day 2. I guess that is the consensus. So we will leave from Apache Junction at 8:00 and pick up the fellows from Tucson at 8:40 In Superior, and then proceed to Globe, Safford (fuel), Morenci, The Hannigan Meadow Inn for lunch, and up the Coronado Trail to Springerville on Saturday. Breakfast at Molly Butler's Lodge in Greer and take the short leg back through Salt River Canyon on Sunday. That will prevent spending so much time in the valley during the heat of the day on Sunday. Hope this fits with everyone's plans. If not, please let me know.
OK, the arrangements with the hotel are set. Call Americas Best in Springerville and mention the you are with the Arizona Cobras. We’ve been promised a group rate of $62.00 for Saturday Sept. 5. 928-333-2655

Guys, I'm setting up lunch at the Inn at Hannigan's Meadow. We need a rough count of noses. So if you're going and making your own reservations, please drop a line or post something here so I can get a close count. Those who have already notified me are already counted.
Thanks,

Did you say FOOD? ...... I'll be there!
Mike and Jeff told me to go pound ... or...something.
Karl, want a ride? Don't want you to feel left out just because you don't have a running cobra.

Boaters in many ways are car freaks. It some cases they have the high end sports cars etc. You know those foreign things!
Boat conversations are about the same concerning engines, radar, electronics, cupped props V wheels; fiberglas, turbos and superchargers and of course speed.
They all notice the car when I drive it up there.

Karl, unless the temp drops some (without rain), I won't be driving the cobra. I'm too old to roast.

Hi Danr, it looks like there will be two Cobras from Tucson joining you. Where do you want to meet at in Superior ?

Bob, Don't be a wuss.. I just ran the course backward today and it was nice. We are leaving early to get across the desert before it gets too hot. We should be in Morenci by about 11:00 and after that, it's all higher and cooler. Hannigan Meadow was 74 today at noon. Beautiful drive.
John, we can hook up anywhere that is convenient for you. I suggested the rest stop at Superior at about 8:40 if that works. If not, pick a different spot.
Oh, and an FYI for everyone going. We won't be the only party in town that weekend. There is an off road vehicle jamboree for all of the Polaris-Honda- 4 wheeler types.

Danr, didn't you get a kink in your neck and didn't you get tired of hearing the reverse gear whine all that way when you drove the course backwards? I would never have been able to make it with the titiaum plate in my neck that prevents turning my head even close to my shoulders. Jeff can tell you all about that. He's one up on me by breaking his neck twice.

Karl, I'm sorry I got confused. Sometimes in the Zcar it's difficult to tell if you are going forward or backward. Now, on a more serious note......we started in Springerville Sunday morning and drove down to Mesa. The temps were great and despite the predictions of showers, not a drop anywhere. It didn't get hot until we hit Safford about 1:00PM. I figure that if we get about Morenci before 11:00 we should beat most of the heat. I am watching this new hurricane that is coming into Baja though. If that starts moving north, plans may change.
"COBRAS ON THE CORONADO The Uphill Run" That's our new moniker.
