Thumbs up wider is better!

Calling Mike ("Monster") and others with 10"-wide front rims and 12" rears. Where can you find usuable (DOT) tires which give you the true 10" and 12" tread widths the your wheels allow. I have gone nuckin' futs looking for 305 Eureo T/As from B S Good'nrich....no dice. NOBODY's making 305s in the 15" rim diameter. I wanted to find out how 265s worked on the front. I COULD put my 275s up front and 295s on the back. Ron Butler has a red-and-gold (ack!) Butler on the rack with exactly that combination. Looks great.
Mike, you're running that combination aren't you? Howzit?

Wink Guess I dialed the wrong number....

....let me try another angle----does any of you have the original (?) Arntz gold BBS look-alike wheels? If so, what are the
rim-widths? I have seen an SECOND type of wheel, mostly on "pure" (post 1989) Butlers---but don't know what they look like other than the fake knock-offs which cover them.

The reason I'm trying to find out what you all are running for wheels is that I've discovered that I have more room for wheel- and tire--width. Looks like 3/4" more room over brake-discs, hubs, etc. If you have true 10" f and 12" aft, I'd like to hear from you, re manufacturer of wheels, etc.

Fred,

Here is the link to the Butler thread were tire sizes were discussed

Mike also replied with his sizes. I am also looking to change sizes to the Butler original 265 / 295 combo...probibly with the BFG TA's. Looking at the latest Summit catalog, they are carrying several DOT racing tires in the 15".

Rogerkrausracing.com has the vintage "Cobra" tires that look very nice on

Here are my Centerline's with the spinner adapter and the PVC cap.

Freddie.................you called ,

I have the following set up:
Wheels from an SPF
 Front 7 ½ x 15 Trigo pin drive
 Rear 9 ½ x 15 Trigo pin drive

Tires
 Front BFG 275x60x15
 Rear BFG(Euro) 305x60x15

I think I posted this some where but, I personall feel that the 305's are a bit to wide (they do look mean though) I get the inner edge of the tire rubbing on the inside behind the seats on hard acceleration and cornering. The fronts, with my current MGB suspension can be well...... "tiring" on long drives with lots of turns. For me I an considering a couple of options either dropping down in size on both front & rear ( 295 R & 245 F) or changing out the lot for 17" Like Chiflo (nice look Pete)

good luck,
Mike

Thumbs up Mike...

I thought I'd commited some atrocity! Thanks for the data! Sell me the 305s! PLEASE---I am wider than my car---they'll look good on me! (Check "Sizzler's" comment on "Big guys"!) Sell 'em to me if there's 1/4" left on 'em! Seriosuly---I'll pay shippin' etc. I yam going with 305s (if you'll sell 'em to me) on the back and the old 275s on the front---I LOVE the front end view of the Monster Butler.
While you're on the phone---which of you smart guys is going to collect our photos and pub a Butler Calendar. You better believe it can't be moi---I look like a monkey trying to f*ck a football, when I'm on the compootah!

Fred,

I have had a number of combinations on my Butler. All were entirely dependant upon offset or backspacing. The best effect I had for complete travel with no interefence are what I am now using. 9.5" fronts and 11.5" rears. Backspacing is 4.875" and I can still play with incrental spacers to adjust the track. Tires are 315 and 275's. Ride is good and it made a tremendous difference in handling.

Default Yes..

Fred,
Alan / Photoguy's Butler has the original 10"/12" wide BBS modular racing wheels on it.

He is currently running BFG 265/50s on front and 295/50s on the rear. The fronts fit well, but we had to shave 1/2" off the rear wheel to get the tires to fit under fender lip a bit more. He is considering narrowing the rear another 3/4" on each side now. If your rear shocks are good, and you have the same will work for you. It's tight on the rear though with his wheel offset and differential width that came from Bulter.
