Dug up an old thread - those "fabric look" hard tops built by Butler were very nice. Does anyone have one of those they would be interested in selling? I have an ERA FIA cobra that I would like to get a hard top for. Thanks, Rick from Miami.

Default Butler hardtop rear window

Hey lal Naja. I'm in for a molded glass window as my Butler hard top rear window is broken too. I had a plexie one trimmed to the same pattern, but it's not molded and may be difficult to bend to fit.
In any case I'm in for a glass or plexie molded window.

Rickd.....Give Ron Butler a call.....I think he may have one last hardtop. I don't think he has a rear glass....but I'm sure he does have a top. His number is 805/649-6000. As for the glass, there are some options. The top comes without the rear window cut out. So, you could speak to Arthur and maybe get a plexi one or you could vary the shape of the rear window and not have it wrap around so much so that plexi would be easier to fit.

Hope this is helpful.

Rick, Give Ron Butler a call. I was under the impression that I got the second last hard top from him and that Russ another Butler owner got the last. But you never know.

Regards,

Arthur Mitchell

Bummer about your window. I have it in my plans to have a new one made, but it is way down on my list right now. Trying hard to finish my car first.

I made a mold from my glass before I tried to install it, knowing that replacing it would be difficult. And as predicted, I cracked mine while installing it. Fortunately only the outer glass cracked so it still okay to use until I take the plunge to have a acrylic/plexi one molded. What is you time frame for replacing yours?

Regards, Arthur

Does the Butler top interfere with the snap studs for the toneau? Any photos of the attachment fitting ferule behind the door latches? Similar to the original (and the ERA)?

Snap studs may be the smallest issue to contend with. A larger problerm would be the difference between the contour of the top and the contour of your body and the distance and angle of your windscreen.

If it happens that your body was from a mold that has the same genetics as the Butler, then you are good to go.

So depending on just how mismatch exists will determine just how you will deal with the fit. Polyester fiberglass can be thermoformed to some degree and I have heated and bent the flange of my top just a little (1/8") to try to get a perfect fit on the body + some sanding. I wrote down the installation process on this Forum, This link will take you to it :- Side Curtains for Butler Cobra with Hard-Top
I have not completed writing the intire process as I'm not totally done with the operation due to my butterfly traits.

You can see a couple of photos in my Member Profile Album on this Forum

The link below will take you to my photo show where you can see a few more shots. http://www.photoshow.com/watch/kx9WB...show_recipient

Thanks Russ, I look at your car and I'm inspired by some of the great things you've done. In comparison mine looks like a Russian tractor.
