Default Garage update # 6

Guy's,

The brickie's arrived today..

They will be setting out and laying a run of 3 high.

From there we take measurements for the steel (there are 4 x 500kg RHS'S) to be made and installed.

Hey dont be critical, without this 6th thread I would never have realised Stiffy was building a new shed.

I think it's great. I'm really enjoying these Garage update threads. I'll have to do one when I build my next shed.

Keep em coming Stiffy.

Default Day 1

Guy's,

Day 1 with the brickies.

I have had to reduce both garage doors from 5400mm to 5100mm, they remain at 2400mm High. The builder and Brickie think there should be bigger pillars. I tend to agree as the steel beams are bloody heavy.

I can now see where some of the stuff will go, like the water tanks, compressor, enclosed dirty area, work area, sink, tool wall (that will be small ) pole dancing area and so on.......
Work Area

Bar

Bogger

Display Area

Back Yard

They were there bright and early today bricking up to 3 meters, installing the window and door frame. They will be making the pillars today as well.

Blue, but cold!

Good to see you are saving money by not utilising a Structural Engineer

Then again you may be wasting money by using over sized RSJ's

Default Engineers

PCC,

I have done everything correctly....

Resurveyed the block

Engineers for the roof and metal sections

Soil test

Correct permits

Independent Building Inspectors

Slab/structural engineers

Draftspeople for designs

Approved Asbestos Removals

Owner Builders permit

the list goes on.

It has cost over $15k just to get the backyard ready for the slab people.

Mate - $15k for approvals - bloody hell that is one hell of a ratio against final cost!

I'd have no work if I had to price that into a job.

I'll stick to my Power Stations, Sewage Plants and Freeway works

Default Money for nothing.

I hear you Stiffy,
I am also in the process of building a shed in the backyard. I have already spendt 7K on council approvals, designers, surveyors, rock doctors and engineers and I have not yet bought any materials or turned any soil.

Love the updates keep them coming.

PCC who do you mainly work for (principal contractors)? I audit a lot of construction companies that do those sorts of infrastructure projects. Mainly in NSW but as i do certification for a lot the big construction companies in Sydney i often find myself venturing to QLD.

Default Day 3

Guy's,

It was another beautiful day in Garage Land yesterday, 22deg, sunny and the brickies drink Crown Lager I have left the house open so they can use the bogger (nothing worse than needing to
Quote:
drop the kids off at the pool
and nowhere to do it) but the beer fridgee was still full.

So I cam home early (any excuse to take a look) and handed out the beers, like most people with taste they preferred the CROWNIES over the VB cans I thought tradies only drank VB.....ANYWAY.....

Progress,

Today they plan to finish most of the walls to the steel height, brick in the door frams and window. Finish the pillars and let it dry for the steel next week.
Then they return for a day and brick in the bloody big steel beams/lentels.

So all going to plan (its like building a Cobra, it never does) by the end of next week the main structure will be in place ready for the builder to add the second story and measure up for the roof guy.

The "garage-mahal" is looking great Stiffy. I have garage envy big time.

Keep those beers flowing to the brickies and you'll get a great job.

I think we have a new venue in the making for our club meetings

Zedn,

Cross section of companies ranging from Thiess at the larger end of the market through to medium sized Main Contractors, as well as major Concrete and Structural Subcontractors.

I'm essential a mercenary

Just finishing erecting the automatic toll gantries around Brisbane where I'm the PM.

Looking good Stiff - plenty of room for a barbie and fridge(s)

...but think of the cost savings in not having to buy mower fuel any more. Just like my Greek next door neighbour said; "We came, we saw, we concreted"
