QA1 Shock Absorbers
I'm looking for an Australian distributor of QA1 shocks. I was told there was a company called Quick Race Parts in Victoria but when I rang the number I got another company who knew nothing about QRP.
Would very much appreciate any assistance or advice on suppliers in any state, or may have to look O/S I guess.

www.vpw.com.au sell them.
We use QA1 shocks on all our cars, if it's a model we stock, would be more than happy to quote on them as well.

Dennis, I'll be buying QA1s soon as well. If Craig can't help you, have a look at www.summitracing.com. They also sell on eBay which gives you PayPal protection if you choose that option. Last time I checked, a good set of single adjustable Proma Stars were about $1000 landed here. Remember, under $1000 (inc freight) and you pay no GST or duty.

I ordered mine from Summit, double adjustable ones, landed here for about $1800 within a week of ordering. A bit cheaper from the US especially at the moment with the weak US dollar.
I also got some Ford 8.8 diff parts, a LSD to suit, some new bearings and axles all from the States, to go in the car soon. Shocks will be here tomorrow and in the car early next week I would guess.
In looking at the prices at VPW you will be slightly ahead from the States, not much if your delivery address is not a major city.

These guys quoted me $160 postage to sydney plus $351.95 for the pair of coilovers.

I have QA1'a which I bought from a mob called Chassis warehouse (proma stars, bearing not bush, single adjustable). Im sure they came in around the $850 landed a couple of years ago - not sure what the dollar was but wasnt quite as good as now. They sell on ebay as well. I have nothing to compare to but I think they do a decent job and appear to be well made.
If you search this forum (the US side) I have read few stories of issues with the Aldan shocks leaking.

That's okay, I was just kidding. None of my business anyway, I know how it is my daughter is a teacher.
Thanks for the shock picture, did you bring the springs in from O/S or buy locally? I had been planning to use Eibach Springs.
What weight springs did you use front and rear? I have a feeling there is an earlier post on springs for CR's, I'll have a look.

QA1 springs as well which I also got from OS and the other ones are a keeper spring that just take up the slack if the main spring unloads. I think they are 425 front and 400 rear.

Hi Dennis,
My CR roller came from Ian with 450 front and 350 back.
I found I had to upgrade the rear to 400 as I had no range left after adjusting for the min 100mm ride height.
The shocks are AVOs and the new rear springs are Eiback's.
The ride is much better now and with plenty of ride height adjustment.

If you can afford it the double adjustable shocks seem to be the way to go for fast lap times.
My single Avo's have only 8500 kms and I think they need rebuilding.

One of my AVo's is leaking
Anyone know of a good Shocker place I can get one of my AVOs repaired it has a leak through the top of the piston shaft.
In Melb pref eastern suburbs.

I have a standard Harrison suspension set up with 300lb King springs at the front and 250 at the rear. Front shocks are AVO 150/100 PD and Rear are 160/105 P/F.
All pretty reasonable, but at about 6,000 kms three of the AVOs started leaking. Warwick called the supplier and all four were re-built and re-fitted at no charge (however, a pain to remove them and take them down to Brisbane and so on). Now at 10,000 I just noticed what I think is leak in the LH rear AVO. I have heard similar stories from some others.
So, I am thinking that another brand of shockie' might be a good idea. The QA1's that Andrew has used seem relatively popular. Have any Harrison owners used them as well? What is the QA1 equivalent model to the AVO (single adjustable)?

Merv, QA1 Proma Stars are the popular alternative down here, either single or double adjustable. They're not up there with Bilstein or Koni shocks but the quality control seems far better than AVO. I have the double adjustables with solid rod ends but you can get poly mounts for more comfort. I think Warwick fits poly at one end and solid at the other.
I have matching QA1 springs at the same rates as yours. My front coilovers are set pretty high at the moment and it runs very hard at the front. This will be remedied in the coming weeks with correct tyre profiles, otherwise it's not worth me commenting too much on the ride quality. Hopefully others will chime in.
I ordered mine from Jegs and they put "goods made in the USA" on the package, which helped with the duty back when the AUD wasn't as strong.
Edit: model numbers were DDR4855B and DDR5855B, FYI.
