The 5L is back....
Seems Ford is set to release a new 5L engine for the Mustangs in 2011.
Alloy including block, 4 valves per cylinder, developing a claimed 412 HP with variable valve timing and capable of spinning to 7K - sounds like a nice package.
Not sure on the engines dimensions but its got to be smaller than the current 5.4L crop of motors.
Perhaps a crate motor option for those now in research mode.

The 5L crate engine (mod) has been available in the U.S. for about a year.
I have read more than once recently, that Ford of AUS is reverting to a pushrod engine of some kind...is there any truth to that?
Never been much of a Mod motor fan, I'd like to see a return to pushrods and smaller external dimensions. I don't care how much HP they claim...those are damned expensive engines to play around with.

It's entirely possible that the new motor is being developed in Aus. The 4.0 Inline 6 has been a real success story for Ford Australia. Also the current 5.4 Boss motor was heavily reworked by Australian R&D before being released in the Falcon.
GM looked to the other colonials for R&D and manufacturing support. The LS motors are mostly built in Canada and we've been exporting rebadged Commodores and Monaros to the US for years. Maybe Ford is looking in that direction now.
Cheers

Beautiful looking motor and could restore the Cobra-Ford combination with compliance.

Don't know about beautiful, some multi throttle bodies on the top with suitable cams would be the go for a cobra or GT40 build.
I hope ford bring this out as a reasonably priced crate motor or they will never out sell the GM V8's.

In regards to the attached article:
How can Ford Australia confirm the use of this engine in the Falcon?
When they can't even confirm that the Falcon model will be continuing beyond the next model?

A stop gap to keep v8's coming off the production line until ford get their one model global platform decided. With the US needing jobs and export and our exchange rate the Falcon is as good as dead, get ready for the Taurus twin turbo eco boost v6. http://www.fordvehicles.com/cars/taurus/
I see the performance arm picking up the mustang to compete with HSV & possibly the RHD Camaro built in Canada.

It appears that the Falcon and the Mustang will share the same mechanical platform with the body being different. Looks like a full circle back to the 60's when the Falcon and Mustang shared the same platform and mechanicals.
