Diff Ratio
Hi everyone,
All the best for the new year.
I would just like some feedback as to what diff ratio I should run behind an
L76 Chev hooked up to a Tremec 6300 6spd. I have been told by a couple of experts to look at a 3.54 or 3.46, I think I have those numberes rite.
Can not give you the gear ratios for the Tuet 6300 box as I could not find it on their website. So if any of you have this I would appreciate your advice.
Cheers
Daz

Time to break out your calculator. You want "cruising rpm"above the point where your timing advance is fully in.Just off the top of my head without runing numbers, that 3.46 gear is going to be way too low(numerically).
Knowing the gear ratios of the box would make it easier.

Commodores with T56 use 3.46, some people have changed to 3.73 or 3.9, but that just results in you going nowhere, visibility gets pretty bad too

Diff
DAZ,
I have a L76 with a 6 speed tremec, it originally had a 3.9 and i was changing gears every 3 seconds....
Changed to a 3.54 and it changed the car (for the better)

Same setup with a 3.45 in mine feels perfect. 110 on the freeway is about 1400-1500 rpm I think.

You want to be able to use all your gears and have a reasonable cruise rpm. without knowing your gearbox ratios and rear tyre size your a bit stuck. They shouldn't be that hard to find out.
Plenty of online ratio calculators or drop me a pm and I can send you my xl sheet. Tried to attach it but fails.

It is completely dependant on what it is that you want to do.
If you are after a cruiser and not a track car 3.5's would be the way to go.
If getting off the line in a hurry is your thing 3.9's are great.
I have 3.9's and would not consider the 2000rpm mine does @ 100k's too high and I run an auto with a higher overdrive ratio than the T56
