I have ended up with quotes from both Shannons and from LSV.
I have been quoted on 3 cars, Cobra on limited use, Valiant Hearse on Club rego/limited use and Ford Capri, and 4th vehicle being trailer.
Shannons where just over $1200 but would not supply a written quote on Cobra or Capri as they are already on the system (even though Cobra insurance was to change from laid up to limited use). They did post quote on Trailer and Hearse, I asked if it could be emailed to me and I was told "No - it takes 2 weeks to change file to a PDF" (found that odd.
LSV for the same vehicles and trailer came in at $860 with same winscreen claims, same wreck recovery etc, and they sent me the quote via email (in PDF) while I was on the phone.
I spoke with Charles, as Frank is finishing up at LSV.

I just renewed mine with LSV and the premium was the same as last year. Pity the same doesn't apply with Greenslips.

I appreciate that because they have been a good supporter of the Cobra Nationals etc., that we should give Shannon's every chance to do the business...but sometimes...like Boxhead seems to have found out...they need to sharpen the pencil and do a little better to satisfy the clients needs.
What about turning this around, and giving Lumleys a chance at finding the sponsorship dollars?
What about I mind my own business...??
Just a thought.
Cheers,
Warren.

Ha ha ha ha I should worry about the cost of hours worked ??? so far I have clocked 10,000 + hours and still going. I've yet to paint the thing and my choice of colour costs $200.00 a litre.( and that's just the colour) The hours spent on building my car are hours of enjoyment...my pastime. Although some of those hours I could have done without !

You can lead a horse to water
Thanks Guys,
We should give Shannons an opportunity and I am pleased David that you gave them a shot.
I have spoken with Shannons a few times in the past about this issue and I know that they will not participate in the price war, I am not sure that its the best strategy.
I think we owe it to them to give them a chance, however if they dont do what is need to keep the business then that is a different story.
Yes I agree Wazza, I hope Lumleys do sponsor the Shelbyfest, it will show they are serious about supporting our community.
Thanks
Phil

The trouble with insurance is you only find out how good it is when you use it. I remember having my Ferrari insured with Lumleys quite a few years ago when, without ever claiming and being with them for about five years, I received a letter telling me from my next renewal date I will no longer be able to insure with Lumleys because they had decided not to insure that type of vehicle for the forseeable future. I have been with Shannons for many years and have only heard good things from many happy clients. I hope the same can be said of other insurers in the future!
Regards.

I have now tried to contact LSV twice by phone and twice by email to get a renewal notice for the Cobra.
About 10 days ago while on the phone a LSV agent he had to re enter all of my details into their data base as they where having trouble, he reassured me that my renewal would be on its way. I rang Frank today on his mobile and it was directed straight to their automated phone service. Tried to email them and I have heard nothing.
All I want to do is PAY some money
Phoned Shannons this evening and even though they are a bit dearer, I have changed over my policy.

so basically both are the same, you can get good people and bad people, good experiences and bad experiences. Funny how that happens when people are involved.

Gav, I rang Shannons the 2 days ago (who I am already insured with bye the way and have been most happy with their service so far), to increase my agreed value by about 15K since I am now painted and they told me to send an email with PICs which I did straight away and the silence has been deafening.
I guess it just depends on who you speak with at each company.
Us customers just have to keep on trying to give people business.
I work in professional services and am a stickler for calling people back so it grates me when I dont hear back when they say they will call.
I'll just have to lower my standards I suppose and get a life.
Rgds

No Gregg keep the standards up we don't need more backsliders out there.
And do chase Shannons cause you know that until they process the value increase, should you have a bingle in the meantime, they'll angle for your current lesser contract value and you don't want to be under insured.
Having had to go the repair route I have had no issue with how Shannons behaved so I'm very pleased in that respect.
Particularly as the repair quote was done and dusted on the body and chassis when we discovered the damaged engine issue and they accepted the repair bills on the motor too.
I got the impression my total repair bill started to come close to decision point of write off value, this only because my car wasn't painted and I hadn't factored this value on the insurance then.
I've also had numerous yachts insured over the years and I have had claim woes from some on the few damage claims I've had to make, mainly with the non-marine specialist insurers.
It does boil down to the quality of staff servicing you.
So back to where I began, don't drop your standards Gregg!

Have you noticed that Shannons have a sponsored link on the thread.
Does this mean that Shannons contibute to club cobra in return for the Link?

I am just wondering if anyone has had to make a claim against LSV yet?
How was tthe process?
I deal with Lumley insurance a fair bit (the fleet of cars I look after at work are all under Lumleys) and with teh fleet have always found them to be very easy to deal with.

Boxhead - slightly delayed response to your question above... we've got 2 daily drivers plus the Cobra with LSV and I'm trying to lodge a claim for hail damage we suffered down here in Melbourne on Saturday. My '06 GTI now resembles a golf ball and the missus Discovery suffered a bit too.
The poor girl on the switchboard at LSV was already sounding hoarse when I rang but politely took my details and said they would call back. The usual claims process involves downloading a PDF and sending it in - basically, "take a number".
I'm getting married on Saturday so I really don't need this. Wouldn't it be nice if the cars were assessed and in the repair shop before we leave on Monday for the honeymoon.
Anyone who knows how we might expediate this process... please chime in. Frank from LSV who came to the Cobra club meeting has moved to their corporate arm, so he's no help unfortunately.
How do they usually repair this damage? New bonnet is easy enough but damage to the pillars and roof... cut and shut?

Sambo
Have you bought extra long tent pegs for Saturday to keep your marquee firmly planted on the ground?
Unlike the couple pictured in Saturday's newspaper.
Think you'll be in a long queue for accessing repairers.

Thanks for the words of encouragement Mr Slow!
Word is that most cars are being written off regardless of extent of damage.
