Default Alternator Wiring

Looking for help connecting my alternator. This is a picture of the rear.

I am assuming:
Large terminal to battery +
Terminal on top marked S is a sensing wire and is hot on run
Other terminal marked L is for the battery light with hot on run on the other side of the light
There is a spade connection half way down. Can anyone tell me what this is for.
Any suggestions or corrections are welcolme.

Thanks Bob

Bob - I assume this is for the Ford so must be a Ford related alternator. These should help.

It is an unusual one Bob! What brand is it? It is 'like' the 3G type (mine is 2G) but that would mean a three-pin connector and the major one to the battery, as you say. Like

However, that extra spade connector has me puzzled. Also, your connector (plug socket) seems to be a two pin?

Looks more like 4G to me Merv. Still unsure of the spade connection though.

Does it have a manufacturer or product number?

There's no manufacturers markings or numbers on it at all Merv. I bought it from Warrick. May have to have a chat with him!

Bob

Definately talk to Warwick - he will steer you in the right direction. The Ford alternators all look just a little different to yours.

As an aside, what brackets did you use to mount the alternator to the LHS of the engine. All the ones I have seen are RHS mounting only.

Cheers

Geof

Geof,

These are brackets designed for mounting on RHS turned upside down. It fits OK but dont know that I'll leave it there as it looks a bit high.

This is a March kit from Raceparts Yatala. Comes with all bolts, spacers, adjustment rod and rod ends. Only slight modification needed for spacer length and bracket to mount to head.

OK! Do chat with Warwick. I got my wiper motor from him and we had a lot of trouble finding the wiring diagram for that.

Spoke with Warrick today. He was not sure and suggested I talk to an auto electrician so no closer yet. I'll let you know.

Ha! I know that feeling. At least it looks to be a new one. Mine was a G2 and I had new bearings and brushes fitted and then I foolishly used a Gilmer and then I had to get it re-wired! It is new now though.

Merv, It seems that I was correct in my first post. The other connection is marked 'W' and is for a tacho. Not needed in my case. Thanks for the help.
