That's a big arse shed Mike, make sure you insulate the roof and wall's it's worth the extra effort.

I have just moved house and I have a shed the same size. I am planning a hoist as well but have a clear span floor so I don't have to manouvre around support beams. I have just painted the floor as the concrete dust is a real pain.

Now I'm in the process of sorting out what goes where, but I am loving the space. Currently Hilux living in there, then I get my 40 series Landcruiser back next week, then hopefully in a month or 2, more likely 2, I'll have my Cobra in there.

I am sure that you will love having that space, I am looking at getting more 3 phase outlets as there is only one in my shed .

Hi Cobber,

It's getting sizalation (sp?) under the roof sheeting and I plan to line all the walls. I used 19mm chipboard flooring on the internal walls of my old shed and it was great as it's strong and flat and you can screw hooks for tools and stuff straight into it. This time I think I'll put some insulation bats behind it, if anything for a bit more noise insulation.

Where abouts did you move to?

Walking round inside the frame with the walls up is pretty cool. You get a better idea of how much space there is. I'm loving it.

The slab is going to be 6" of 32MPA concrete with F72 mesh. I plan to get it burnished for a smooth, hard flat surface. I'm also getting them to put a moisture barrier under it like they do with a house slab. I may paint it or at least seal it but I figure I'll let the concrete cure for a good few weeks before I do. The slab in my old shed had always been a disappointment. The surface was always dusty and flaky. even when painted the paint would quickly peel since the surface under it was no good.

I talked about this with the guy who installed my house ceiling insulation (non rebate, non metallic), he said the issue with wall insulation in steel sheds, if placed against the wall sheeting, is that it prevents condensation running down the inside. Ends up getting soggy which is not what you want against a steel frame.

I moved from Park Orchards to Park Orchards. I have just gotten married and we purchased 20 acres just around the corner from where I was living, and since it was a farm, it had a nice big shed for 'machinery', that also has a stable on the back of it measuring 11x9 and a couple of lean too's for undercover parking. My wife liked the house, I loved the shed

I put up with the concrete floor for 3 weeks before I had had enough and got it painted (I had put up with my dad's concrete floor as well previous to this). Now I can just sweep mess away without having concrete dust going everywhere from my lungs to all over the tools and cars. I went for Koala grey, a standard colour and it looks good. I am now wiping away all the spider webs on the inside and it comes up looking like a new shed.

I just need my car to go in there and I'm set. I already have the fridge lined up!!!!! I just need to sort out what goes where, but I am loving the space.

Looks like a rippa shed, I'll bet you loved it. I had 2 big sliding doors on my old shed. You could push them both back in summer and have a 20 foot wide opening which was great on hot days.

I went for roller doors on the new one as I wanted a 3.5M high opening in the center to get trucks etc in there.

Mike, are you getting clear sheet in the roof to allow light in?

Yep, polycarbonate sheet roof across each of the 4 bays on the raised center part. It also extends down the short wall from the top roof part to the lower roof. This should give me plenty of light.

I was advised against the laserlight sheeting as it fades the cars and its too hot in summer.

I put 50mm insulation ( non fyberglass ) into all the walls, the ceiling in the GYM ( Yeh right ) I put the best SP I could get. As I have plastered its impossible to add after.......

Stiffy, I thought about the heat and fading issues but the need for good lighting overrode that. I'm not having any external windows for security reasons and I didn't want the place the be dim and dark. I went for a tinted sheeting so hopefully that will cut down on some of the heat and UV.

I spoke to a couple of insulation suppliers and they reckon it's OK to use batts with a colorbond shed as long as you have a layer of foil between the batt and the steel. That shields them from the condensation.

We are in a fire zone and fiberglass sheeting is not allowed.
The argument is that an ember can burn thru and ignite something in the shed.

A week of no builders and no progress (bad weather and sickness keeping them away). They were back yesterday and made up for lost time by nearly finishing the roof.

Here's what it looks like today. At this rate they might be finished by the end of the week.

I'm not asking what it's going to cost you all up, but in your research did you find a big discrepancy between manufacturers quotes, and did you see a corresponding difference in quality?

I've seen some 'slide back' shades on wire tracks that concertina when opened. I don't know where I saw them but they were pretty simple. Maybe you could fit them to pull down when you aren't in the shed.

We've been blessed with some good weather the last couple of days. The builders are happy that it's clear and not to windy as putting silver paper and roof sheeting on can be a real pain if it's windy. It sure can get windy around our place.

I got home tonight and it looks like the roof is all done bar the skylight sheets and the ridge capping. A bit hard to see what's what in the dark.

The builders are nearly finished. Just waiting for the flashings for around the doors to turn up. They still have to set up the roller doors and their motors and install the side access door. They reckon they should be finished by Monday or Tuesday.

I've got a couple of 22K liter water tanks turning up on Tuesday too. They should keep the gardens alive through our scorching summers.

Concreter is booked in for the following week.





Here's how the skylight look. They are tinted so it's not to bright in there.



I'm pleased with the construction. It's got a good sturdy frame and they guys have done a good job putting it together.
