I can still recall and cringe at my dear old Dad's solution to fixing a painfull injury.
He was a tough SOB Scotsman with a very high threshold for pain but clearly not high enough after one sleepless night due to a throbbing thumbnail. He had jambed the finger between timbers the day before fixing the family fence.
Whole nail was purple so must have hurt like hell, but the solution was to have number one son (me) hold the power drill switched on atop a bench with a small drill bit whilst he proceeded to drill through the nail.
I expected to see the drill bit appear through the other side of his thumb but fortunately it didn't. When it did cut through the nail I still also recall the spurt of blood as the pressure released, it must have been under considerable pressure.
Same man wrote off Angina attacks as intigestion until a couple of heart attacks then foreshortened his lifespan.
Personally I plan to try and live beyond 63 but I still miss the silly old coot!
Stay safe fellows!
