Always good to start the engine and make some noise, that's going to be a beast with that supercharger.
Hold on.....

A pull up resistor should do the trick on the tacho as Sideshow mentioned, you might need to do the same thing for the speedo too. I know this was the case for VDO gauges.

Maybe find out what signal is needed to run the tacho from
where u bought it or send tacho to us and we will try our best
to get it working as there is 4 or 5 differnt things we can
do to try get it working
unfortunately most every day auto elects don't really know this sort of stuff
and way we learn it is to test different things on our bench testing
setup which no one probably has over here
another thing u can try is the autometer tach booster
which wires into the coil power wires
but they r about 100 bucks

I seem to have hijacked this thread - sorry TL.
Technical stuff really gets the forum fired up and it's great to hear all the experience and knowledge.
Greg, I'll take you up on the offer to hook a CRO up to measure the signal, then I have a basis to work from - speak to you next meeting.
Thanks everyone for your input, it seems that this problem isn't as mysterious as it seems.
