12 weeks till Cobra Nats
With 12 weeks or approx 84 sleepless nights to go until the 2010 Cobra Nats I thought I'd start a topic on who's going.
I would suggest a strong QLD CONTINGENT AGAIN THIS YEAR with perhaps some stealthy new ring ins if Joe "circle me in" Bauer and/or Gary "my tow rig has more bling than yours" Hall of BDM attends. Both of which have cars worthy of National inspection!
Scotty Ozvenom is talking bigger turbos, Wazza has new reliable ponies to whip, Chunky H is building a new engine and Ash and Wayne are wickedly quick with eyes for the grand poobaa trophy. There is much competition to be had even before its mixed with a healthy National contingent!
Its a great few days away and I've already started getting ready!!!!! Woo hoo
I wonder if the talk of that BIG HP NSW car will finally show some thigh this year????????????????????

Yes i'll be there again with bells on. Wayne Proctor isn't coming, some say he bleeds ford blue blood, others say he chooses to be bald because it saves on hair nets... We know him as the stay away STIG.... ha ha
NOw sign up to this forum and have your say wayne!! lol
The latest on Chunk is i think he will be battling it out in the 5.0 litre class after the demise of the 347 down the main straight at Morgan Park. Can he rule the Kingdom in a five litre? Maybe he will build that 427 all alloy polished Windsor???
Only time will tell.......
Oh! John White will (should) be there with the 650hp RCR GT40.....

I will be there, after having done some extensive engine work (changed the oil), had the suspension fine tuned (checked tyre pressure), and did some work on the aerodynamics (used a finer grade of sandpaper on the paint), I reckon I'll go heaps faster.

As always really looking forward to it.
Looking into the logistics of my wife racing a car this year.
Looks like I might need to hire a truck so I can transport the cars needed. Not the first time I have done that either.
Dare I say it, but please let there be good weather this year.

Here we go again.
Yep there are just around the corner.
I have been lending a hand with the nationals prep and things look great.
The entry forms and regs will be out this week.
There are a few little changes and some forced conditions concerning unregistered cars.
Phil lynn will post a full update with the forms on the clubs site
www.cobracarclubnsw.org.au
It would be great to see Lee on the track in that beauty, and pick up most Authentic

Sounds good.
As long as the car runs all weekend and she has fun, that will do me.

Hey spook did you read point 13 of Section 13 'Vehicle Requirements'?
There is a noise restriction at Wakefield Park?? Has that always been in place??
95db is quite quiet......

That noise restriction could be a real worry.
95DB at 30m. Monitored by Wakefield Park staff.
How noisy is that really? 30m is a reasonable distance.
I can see half a dozen or more race Cobra's and GT40's that I think are going down to the Nationals from QLD that may not meet that requirement.
Street spec cars will be fine.
What impact will this have on the race cars as I doubt any of them have ever been measured and I expect the owners would not want to run the risk of being knocked back at the track as it is quite an expensive and time consuming excercise to get to the event.
If we had known we could have easily measured most of them at QLD raceway on track a few weeks ago. I expect there won't be an opportunity to meaure most of them now before the Nationals as all we have now is an A Series event coming up that only some of the track cars attend.

Does anyone know if this rule was in last year? I guess better to know now than to find out later. Also u can redirect exhaust to drivers side to make sure noise exits to inside of track. Lakeside has the same restrictions. I am sure if u took it there for a track day they would tell you if it was over. Laurie Watson successfully muffled his 363 cube escort and he reckons it went faster. Food for thought.

So,
A quick question regarding the Nats.
Those in QLD and NSW may remember a recent sporting event called the state of origin in which Qld just won.
Well there has been lots of conjecture regarding the state from which certain players orginated and it relates to where the player first played grade league or something like that.
So.....
My car was first registered in Vic.
Then registered in Qld.
It now lives in NSW.
Cheers
Steve

I think the 95 Dba requirement has allways been at Wakefield, Pretty sure it was when I attended a few years ago.

I'm with Boxhead on this...I always thought the the restriction was there...but not necessarily policed.
I think my race Cobra will be o.k., but it is a concern that's for sure.
Cheers,
Warren

Wazza, if we think of it, might be a good thing to measure yours from the same distance at the next A Series. Will give us a ball park figure to work with on the other cars.
Apparently 30m from the Tower at Wakefield park.
Just this year we have more race cars with more noise attending the nats this year than in previous years. But 30m is a reasonable distance, so maybe it's a worry over nothing.

Wakefield Park run under CAMS rules regarding noise emissions. It is measured/read from the control tower based on a sensor being placed somewhere (?) within the the straight and is based on cars running wide open...or at full noise if you'll pardon the pun.
While this measure is in place, vary rarely have they ever had to enforce this rule...They run sports sedans meetings and tractor pulls at WP. Surely a 5million HP methonal burning tractor can't be under 95dba?
As QR was running under CAMS for the SMCS a few weeks ago and no one was pinged for noise...does that mean we (everyone who attended that event) can assume we are OK for WP....
Its going to be a looong way to go to be turned around!
And if we are pinged....does that mean 110dba gets punted and 97dba doesn't....? I am doubtful my car would meet 95dba Lol......and even more doubtful many street registered cars will either!!!!
I guess as the saying goes..."he who assumes......"

The noise rule has always been in place, not our rule but Wakefields.
Matt, give me a call tomorrow
