Is it manual or power steering?
In either case I would use the black Molybond grease on the rack and pinion gear, also on the plasic bushes at either end of rack.
In the case of manual I would use the same grease on the pinion bearings.
I am strugleing to remember the power steer setup, I thought the pinion bearings where lubricated by the hydraulic fluid, but somewhere deep in my mind I am thinking the hydraulic assistance is sealed seperatly to the pinions.

Its manual Box. was told that manual is a better option than power, so went that way.
So you're saying straight moly grease then. I can do that
Thanks

It should have been lubed while being assembled, not after.

yeah I did that, but going back to when I did up my Morrie Minor rack in the 60's I had to fill the rack with a heavy oil, and the rack that I got was pretty dry, so that's why the question

Hi Rog,
What year is the rack from? I have just rebuilt my manual rack from a VB and used gear oil as per the workshop manual.
Hope this helps :-)
Cheers,
Roy

Hi Rog,
My manual says to use 190-210mls of SAE 90 or EP 140 Gear Oil so I used 200mls (rack is narrowed by 105mm) of Castrol LSX 90 Gear Oil.
Cheers Roy
