Where has everyone been getting their screens from?
American ebay has them for $460.00 but the freight out to here is $480.00.
Thats without glass.

I bought mine direct from Ian at Classic Revival many years ago.

I know that you can get the glass from Windscreens O'Brien, so it may be possable to talk to a US supplier about just buying a frame?

NOVUS Autoglass can supply the glass ( that's all I asked for but they seemed keen to want to fit it into the frame as well.) $199.00 delivered

Sjelby,

Where are you located? I am going to be in the market for a windscreen in the next few months. I wonder if we order two at the same time we might get a discount on the postage? Let me know if your interested in going halves.

Zedn and Sambo:
Im in Bendigo, CENTRAL VIC.
The american ebay supplier is getting back to me about a freight company in Los Angeles that has a depot in Melbourne.
As soon as i find out their method of transport i will update everyone.
We should be able to do a deal with a few screens in the one order surely.

Thats excellent.

I got a quote a few months ago and ruled it out cause of shipping. But i think the shipping is blown out by size rather than weight so 3 strapped together shoudnt be much more than one.

I am happy to get the whole lot with glass or just the frame, whatever works out best.

I am in sydney but postage Vic to Sydney shouldnt be all that much.

Let us know how you go.

Just a thought, if we are going to get the glass as well we will need to check that it has the required markings for rego.

Looking at the cost it may be cheap to buy the frame and get the glass here.\

I was thinking of getting the frame only and getting the glass fitted here. Also was going to get all the other little things like handles and licence plate light and louvers put in the box. Have a think about what else you need and we can probably get it all in the one box. If there is no glass then there is going to be a big hole in the middle of the box doing nothing.

A dismantled frame would be a lot less in freight than an assembled frame, and you have to pull it apart anyway to fit the glass.
Also each piece could be bubble wrapped before being boxed.
I have also heard most people report the glass is cracked when delivered (I guess I was lucky that mine wasnt).
When fitting glass and fitting to car or fitting wind wings, mirrors, sunvisors, make sure you check your screw/bolt length before fitting.
That is one tip I was given and touch wood, have not cracked a screen yet.
I now have a couple of small stone chips so come early Feb I will get my one replacement screen each year.

Does the frame dismantle into four pieces? Would be a much smaller package.

Sjelby,

It seems that if the glass is only 199, its cheaper than buying the whole unit plus it will have the compliance mark on it.

The licence plate lights are about $10 from autobarn. I am planning to make my own louvers and if you are not in a hurry for them i can make some for you at the same time you would just have to pay for postage to Vic. I already have the stainless left over from my fuel tank so im not worried about material costs. Im planning to make them the same style as the ones with the frame that curves the whole way around.

In that bottom link, it is frame only, but I can not see any hardware to mount the frame to the car?
In teh following pic, you can see 2 chrome bars (1 each side of screen), these bolt to screen frame and slide down through body work, just make sure the frame advertised comes with these parts.

Just read the add and it says side supports and screws so I would assume these are supplied.

all this talk about screens sourced from left right and centre, surely you need a screen with a curve to match your car, as I'm sure all body manufacturers are slightly different?

As it is only the windshield frame and not the glass , and being made to original specs,a little bit of tweaking would be possible to get the perfect fit.
With the curve in the bottom rail, if you wanted to change the rake of the screen then adjustments would have to be made anyway.
Get it sitting where you want it then have the glass fitted.
thats the way i see it working.

I trusted the manufacturer of the kit to know which screen was the best fit. It was quite easy with their assistance and not that expensive.

The screens are all the same. As they have the rubber seal on the bottom they should fit all slight variations in shape. So i was told by a person that builds a lot of cobras.

Merv, I havnt seen a screen much cheaper than $1500 here. If we can get a decent price on shipping and the glass is $200 then it will be closer to $1000. Thats $500 to put towards the list of other things i need.

Stan let us know when you hear back from them.

So far i have got the freight charges down to US$388.00
That is for the full size box.If i can get them to pack the unasembled pieces into a smaller box i should be able to get it cheaper again hopefully.
