Well I'm sure the WA boys may well be celebrating!!!!
just got an email from the mta is as follows
The Motor Trade Association (MTA) in conjunction with Australian Automobile Aftermarket Association
(AAAA) and the Institute of Automotive Mechanical Engineers (IAME) has received advise from the
Minister for Transport, Simon O’Brien MLC that as a result of information received from the special IM240
Review Committee, the Government has decided that emissions testing requirements will not include
mandating a requirement for IM240 testing.
The Emissions Testing Review Committee has over the past 12 months provided the Government with
clarity on several issues concerning emissions testing, including the responsibilities of Government, vehicle
modifiers and vehicle owners to ensure that emission standards are being addressed.
The committee will continue to meet to address other issues relating to emission testing requirements for
the future.
The MTA’s position has always been that aftermarket modifications to vehicle engines should comply with
appropriate vehicle standards, however the previous IM240 regulations introduced last April by the
Department of Transport were flawed and difficult to implement due in part to a limited number of testing
stations.
The MTA are delighted with the outcome to date and believe it is a good example of how the three Major
Industry Associations have worked together in harmony to achieve success for the Motor Industry and
motorists alike in Western Australia and would like to thank both AAAA and IAME for their input and
support.
