Well done Liam and congratulations on the new daughter.

Don't worry about fitting or even drilling the holes for the wind wing mounts as you will be knocked on these by RTA as non compliant ADR -That is speaking from experience.

Lovely work on the screen fabrication also.

Can I ask what grade stainless sheet you used?
and How hard is it to polish stainless compared to alloy ?

Hi Dave,

It was 304 1.5mm sheet.

Compared to alloy stainless is much harder to polish. That being said if its in reasonable condition to begin with its not too bad to polish with the right gear. The reason it took a long time to polish is because i needed to file it flat because the welding leaves slight warps here and there. Taking filing marks to a mirror finish takes some time.

Hi Baz,

My engineer told me about the wind wings when i met with him. Dont know why but it was just one of the things he told me. I guess that a few people get caught out by it. I am just having padded sun visors as per the ADR requirements.

Are you any closer to the final inspection yet?

Liam

Thanks David,

Dont suppose theres any jobs going at Kirkham for an inexperienced self taught fabricator

You guys are lucky to have such a fun job, heaps of great tools and get paid to do it.

Cheers.

Contacted my Engineer yesterday as he had promised to send me his second revised report for the RTA by Friday last week which didn't arrive. It is now promised by the end of this week. A copy will go direct to RTA and C.C.'d to me. Then the next wait starts. I'm getting used to this now. Can't see anything happening this side of 2011.

18 family and friends are off for 13 nights over Christmas around New Zealand on Sun Princess on Dec. 17 and return on 30th so there's 2010 gone.

See my surgeon next Tuesday and I'm telling him to make arrangements to have my left knee replaced early in 2011.

So as far as the Cobra Registration goes... who knows. If the RTA start stalling me so I come within the confines of the new Engineer Signatory Agreement, which means that I have to start again from scratch with a new Engineer, we'll be off to Court where I've been assured through my Barrister, that a win with substantial costs awarded against them is well and truly on the cards.

2011 could be a very exciting year, not much better than 2010, but exciting just the same.

I was actually thinking about that the other day. Its not really any different to having a development application approved. If the council knock it back and have no valid reason then people take them to the land and environment court. I dont see why the same cant appy just as easy.

Hi Liam,
Great work
I have an engineering background and wouldn't have even considered doing this.
Like others on this forum when you first suggested you were going to build your own windscreen I thought you must have been a nutter.

I've read so many great posts on this forum, many from people like Aussie Mike
re- designing and frabricating his rear suspension to eliminate bump steer and Tenrocca with his aluminium paint job etc, but your project was one of the most ambitious yet, well worth a second read.

Really great work and pics, I wish I had your patience.
And congatulations to you and the boss on the new baby.

Dennis

Excellent work and your wife must be a very understanding woman as well. Not many would let hubby build windscreens in such a beautiful living room!
