SHE LIVES !!!!!!!!!!

After Three and a half years...I finally got to hit the "Start" button..

Cobra LS7 First Start - YouTube

Cobra LS7 First Start...engine running. - YouTube

I was so nervous I couldn't think what I had to do...

For some reason, I was afraid it was going to jump into the wall in front of me !!

( I've done THAT before )

Is it in gear ??? What do I do...Oh yeah...turn the ignition on....ya dummy.... !!

DUH !!

REALLY happy with the work that Scotty Hampson ( Venom Fabrication) has been doing to get the car finished up to the level we wanted....Thanks pal.

He's been very particular, and pays attention to every detail.

It's been a long birth so far...but I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel...Hope it's not a train coming !!

BEFORE I get the usual " It's not a Corvette" comments...I can tell you that the engine covers will not look like that in the next few weeks.

and don't worry...that old steering wheel was just for moving it around...there's a nice moto lita wheel in the box with a bunch of other goodies.

Sometime this week , I'm hoping to get the car off to Dave Britton at Annvid Motor Trimmers,

Annvid Auto Upholsterers and Marine Trimmers - Repairs and Custom Trims Brisbane

for the final step....The interior.

It's all designed, and ready to install, so I'm hoping it won't take too long.

Next time I post...I'm hoping it will all be finished , and ready for rego.

Cheers,
Warren.

The fly by wire seems a bit " doughy " at the moment.... But I'm waiting to see what a decent tune does when it's ready to roll out the door.

Great work Wazz - the intake looks great - where is the cold air coming in?

Now...Was that a genuine first start or had Scotty fired it up before hand? Ive seen a lot of first start videos and mine was the only one that coughed and spluttered and thought long and hard before settling into a nice idle when I first fired her up.

Ive never had any issues with the fly by wire on mine - I think it is very responsive. Streets ahead of an fbw astra I drove once had - could make a cup of tea in the time between pressing the right foot and the engine saying OK.

Cheers

Great work Wazz - the intake looks great - where is the cold air coming in?

Both front brake ducts are fully enclosed / boxed off, under the wheel arch, and fresh "outside" air is then directed through two 100mm holes in each side of the firewall..and fed into the front half of the air box.

Then there's a vertical air filter panel separating the front half from the back half...and the engine sucks air from the back half.

Hope that makes sense !

Here's some pics showing the "mock up" and making sure everything was going to fit first.

Here's a couple showing the "Before" and "After"

Now...Was that a genuine first start or had Scotty fired it up before hand? Ive seen a lot of first start videos and mine was the only one that coughed and spluttered and thought long and hard before settling into a nice idle when I first fired her up.

Scotty had been waiting for a couple of "bits" to arrive, before he could finish the air box and header tanks etc.....That's all we needed to finish the engine, and we could fire her up...

Then he phoned me Friday afternoon, and said " LISTEN"...I heard it running..and it sounded a bit rough.....
and I was in his shop Saturday morning for MY first start.

He knew I'd have a heart attack if it FAILED after all this time...so he made sure it was right first.

All Good.

Cheers,
Warren

Also really happy with the removable Covers that we ( Warwick Harrison ) made so that the suspension wasn't visible looking into the engine bay.

That always bugged me on the previous Cobra.

That looks awesome and a great custom air intake rather than a pod filter set up. All looks custom factory.....nice!

Very nice. You'll be sucking in small cars and pedestrians through that inlet. I really like the overflow tank. If you took the cap of while it's running, does it surge out of the filler? I've always fitted the feed tube to the waterpump inlet.

FINALLY getting near the end...

Well...didn't that FOUR years fly by ?....Lucky I've had the Race car to get my Cobra "fix".

Anyway....

Not long now,

After the trimmer who PROMISED that the interior would be done in three weeks...took three and a half MONTHS so far...and should be all done "in another week or so"

APPARENTLY I had to wait until the German Cows that had my leather on them ....died.

It must have happened recently 'cause everything has arrived...and all the panels are now done and just need to "throw in the carpet and leather ".

The dash is done, and some of the centre console/foot wells etc.

I hope that the next post will be me jumping up and down because it's all done...but I don't want to jinx it, so I'll just throw in a couple of pics of stuff we did today, and some other bits of the dash etc.

FINALLY got around to changing those Chevy engine covers...they still have some polished stainless panels to be fitted yet...but I'm happy with how they look in the engine bay so far.

And...

The roll bars...they've been sitting there for two years...but hadn't been cleaned up and polished until now.

Scotty got to them and cleaned up the welding, and polished them to perfection.

Also asked Scotty to make some oval shaped besels for the rear stays , so that they look like they would match the look of the other besels...REALLY happy with the job.

Hoping my idea of the panel in the middle of the dash...holding all of the gauges will look o.k.
( I know it's not everyone's cup of tea...But I'm trying something a bit different)..

so I'll be happy if it looks o.k., when we get all of the interior done, and hopefully it will look how it does " In My Head"...If you know what I mean.

We'll see how it all looks when it's finished..

I can always redo it if it looks shi*house.

Back to the trimmers in a couple of days...has assured me that all the hard work is done, and should take no time at all to finish it off..

Then just a few tidy up jobs...testing , and wheel allignments, brake adjustments..etc..etc..etc.

AND THEN ......IT'S REGO TIME !!

YAAAAYYYYY !!!!

Stay Tuned,

Regards,
Warren.

That dash looks sensational Wazza

A beautiful job allround.

The advantage you get by having done it before and being patient enough to take the time to get it right.

Contrasted with busting hurry that I felt when building my car.....you just want to get it finished

Ahhhhh, next time
