Pic's of Dashboard
Hi everyone & happy new year to you'all.
Am about to start muckin' about with my dash and would like some pic's of what people have done please. Not sure what I want really, just after some ideas Rog:cool: |
...and a Happy New Year to you.
This dash is the standard fit on UK Dax 427 replicas. Might give you some ideas.. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/s...//ppuser/39263 |
Here is mine. It is wrinkle finish paint on fibreglass.
I set the gauges out so all can be seen around the steering wheel. The headlight switch is Mk 11V jag. http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...neering012.jpg |
An original Dash:

I collected more than 100 dash layout pics Rog. I also have the original SC 427 and the 289 layout templates.
I wanted something that was associated with an original look. Another US original below. Stewart Warner gauges and speedo and tacho behind the wheel - perhaps not the best location for visibility. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...nal_layout.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...al_dash_21.jpg It all depends on whether you want an 'old school' look or a modern layout. In some states they may have a thing about the types of switches as well. |
Dashboard layout.
Pics of my dashboard layout are attached.
All electronic and connected to the car wiring loom by 6 plugs. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...y_2010_011.jpg |
An original 427 layout and a recent Kirkham. Generally, however, most current builders keep the tacho' and speedo away from behind the steering wheel. The last shot shows a variety of layouts.

http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...&pictureid=976 Mine is OK, but Tach and speedo should be changed over (Engineers direction this way). :o%/ |
Here's mine........

A couple of pics from my gallery showing my layout. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...07_2_small.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...07_1_small.JPG Will be adding two further rotary switches beneath the two near the wheel for extra heater controls. Will have backing plates made with engraved signage for the swith uses and will get the knobs black annodised to match the layout look. The courtesy light and pull switch below I got off ebay from an MGB if I recall correctly. This works well at night and comes on with door opening or pull of the switch for any night map reading I may need to do. Large space below will also house a stereo unit when I'm closer to finishing the car. Would echo the sentiment about being able to see the gauges and with modern steering wheels anything tucked to the right of the steering column tends to get lost or relatively unsighted. Good luck with your choice. |

Dash Pic
Mine is just fibreglassed MDF and painted same colour as stripe. The good old K.I.S.S. way. :p
http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._003_small.JPG Cheers |
Mine is fairly simple as well.
Didnt go for the glove box as have great side pockets in doors which I find more convenient. Anything I need to keep secure goes in the boot. fibreglass panel with foam padding and leather covering. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...nterior_41.jpg |

I went for an old school look based on the S/C layout, aluminium panel covered in leather, modern lights, old school gauges.

and some have less connection with the original Cobras, but are what the builder wanted as a modern statement:
