Default Descent Weatherproofing al la Hard Top

Does anyone know where I can get a hard top finished in Melbourne if I supplied the gel coated top only. I would prefer for someone else to do the cutting/trimming to size, making and fitting the rear window plus the attachments including the side windows? The car is a finished DAX kit and has fasteners/attachment points for a tonneau and an old soft top which needs replacing too.

Do you have a hard top yet?
I only ask as I too am looking to buy one.

Welcome to the forum Fuzzy. Get in touch with the Vic Cobra Club or try one of the local kit manufacturers such as Kenmer, Doug Pearce, Python or Venom. Further details here:

Bonus points if you upload some photos to your gallery!

Dave,

You'r quite a large chapee. Have you ever tried to enter or exit a Cobra which has been fitted with a hardtop? I guarantee that you will get your body into various unorthodox shapes that it is not used to getting into.

Dave, Les can correct me but I believe the Harrison is very similar to the CR and a friend here has the mould. We are thinking of making a couple soon. There was an earlier thread on that.

Merv, do you have a pic of the Harrison one?
I like the LeMans type from Mr Bruce, with opening rear hatch.

I will also go off searching

Dave I was wrong - the Harrison and the RMC are the most similar in shape, however, on any Cobra there is a lot of fettling needed to get the edges (side, front and rear) to align well. I have lots of photos of how the edges and retaining clips are done on many different 'tops.

This thread has some pics Hardtops but there is also this one with a nice 'stepped' edge. I am over 6ft tall and fit easily under my soft top and the hard top I am planning will be similar in shape. The mould that our CCC member has here can be used and sections can be added (for example, for the extended Harrison body that I have) and edges modified.

The Le Mans type is shown in the thread and another version of that type is shown in the earlier thread on the scratch built car in Istanbul.

Warren's (WKB) Harrison top is on P3 of the thread. Obviously there could be a different rear window.

Fuzzy 1,
When i purchased my DAX cobra 18months ago the guy selling it had a hard top on it which i didn't want, he decided to keep it and i got the car a bit cheaper. He has tried to sell it, i can't see it fitting any other car except a dax (probably only my dax) but you might get it at a good price and could be a good starting point. It is covered in black vinyl which i thought a bit strange and it has a solid rear window. No side windows, i got them with the soft top. He is located in sydney . Just thought since you had a dax it might help. His name is Barry and the last contact i had for him was 0413166155..

Yes I have located one for the asking price of $500 which I thought was cheaper than the Python alternative.

Thanks Paul for the advice. So far I've only tried the Godfather who is offering the glass top only for $500. All the trimmers want you to all the hard work, but I don't have the time and I have never bent perspex 6mm thick before. I have seen it done. I was going to try Python but I think they are still vacationing??

Thanks Mr Bruce for your offer, but I would prefer the smaller one like the black one shown in Merv and Sharon's response.

The Le Mans top generally required this trunk type:

I'm seriously contemplating the Le Mans hardtop from DB Replicas in the UK (mentioned in another thread). Not cheap to land here but the styling and engineering is top notch if you ask me.

Edit: found the other thread.

I agree Paul, they do look good and appear well made, but the shapes of Cobras vary so widely that fitting any 'top that hasn't been made for your car can be very difficult.

That's right Merv. I've requested info such as maximum boot width, distance to 'B' pillar, how does it attach to screen, etc. I will have to accept a fair degree of customisation even if the basics are looking favourable.
