Default Engineering tomorrow

At last the weather cleared enough to get the camber/alignment done on Friday (cancelled 3 times in the last month) so it's off to see Mr Cross tomorrow
I think all's clear on the checklist Ray sent me, only thing is 3" clearance from the deck......to get 4" I need to wind the adjusters on the shockies up to the max then they bang like hell topping out. We'll see what happens....
Couple of new pics here showing off the trimming, the colour doesn't look right in the pics, it's not really that RED
Local trimmer did the job, apart from being terminally slow its the ducks nuts IMHO.

It is a good feeling to have the car finished off to a point that it can be engineered.
It might be be a good idea to remove your sunvisors. They are probably not ADR compliant.
I think the mirror is the centre mirror.

Mirror needs to be able to dip (the night vision thingy). Sun visors are mandatory and have to be padded. Are those MX5 seats? If so they are not tall enough in standard form (See Baz's nightmares).

If the quick jack mounts stick out from the body they wont be allowed. I think its the general safety requirements ADR that specifies potrusions.

Good Luck.

Forgot to mention, the trimming looks great. I like the contrast of the silver and red.

Thanks Zedn
I'm registering the car at my Qld address, so fortunately a lot of the NSW BS doesn't apply
including passing the old Windsor donk.

I was warned against fitting the mirror to the dash for rego, so fixed it upside down from the top lip of the windscreen using a bracket fixing into the soft-top groove. The idea was sourced from one of rdc767's photos:

I found Ray a very down to earth guy. Dont stress he will walk you through any issues. I can remember when I went expecting it to be like a pits inspection but found him very interested in the build. I actually enjoyed the experience in the end. Just a bloody long winding road to drive with a big trailer and it was raining when I went. All the best. The quality of your build looks great.

Thanks Bruce
Ray's about 10 km away just off the same rural road as i live. When I called him ages ago to register my build he said to me, "I know you, I broke down out the front of your place years ago and you gave me a lift home" Just goes to show it pays to be kind to your fellow man, you never know when you'll meet again!!
I'm not silly enough to assume that engineering will be a breeze as a consequence, but he has been very helpful to date.......and i can drive my car down the twisty bits to get to him:-)
Andrew, thanks for that idea as well. I might just grab a mirror from the wreckers then just hope it doesn't fall off later?!

Hi Greg,

Nice work, good to see it ready to go.

Good luck with engineering, I'd ditch the sunvisors for the exercise.

Cheers

Well done Greg! That mirror will need to be an onscreen Repco type one only. No visors and the dash pad fitted. Ray has seen lots with the suspension up. What seats are they. All looks great.

So, Today is the big day, congrats.
I'm going to use a xd onwards ford stickon mirror but mounted to a bracket from the top of the frame first up, just to negate the possibility of the glass cracking if it gets knocked and falls off which seems to be a common problem with these cars.
With the visors, if you need them on there I believe they need 5 mm padding. You could get some thin foam from the trimmer, spray glue it to some fabric or vinyl, stitch the edges and make a slip on cover. Possibly add some velcro to the open end. This makes them easily removable for cleaning purposes (yeah right).

Luck has nothing to do with your pending success today, it's just a culmination of all your effort and ability.
Hope you come home with a big wide smile.
Cheers

All done. Ray's really helpful as you pointed out. I even did the testdrive as he couldn't get his knees under the dash

This is what i need to fix:

Mirror needs a trim around it to remove sharp edges.

Remove front overrider mounts and sharp edges on the filler lid.

Adjust brake bias as front locks up before back (Warwick's given me the fix for this)

Fit an extension to the front internal bumper. Apparently something an inspector at Zirlmere has been picking on.

Fit a restrictor to the exhaust system. Its 100dba @ 3600rpm and needs to be 90dba. We built provision into the pipework for this so no big deal to quieten it down.

That's about it, so off to the coppers on Monday for a surrogate VIN, then the wait for Qld Transport.

Merv, the seat are from a Honda Beat. A mate of mine who's a automotive genius bought two wrecks of these groovy little mid engined cars. They have a 800cc donk but he shoehorned a MR2 engine into it by widening the whole
rear end, turboed it, painted it red and stuck Ferrari badges on it. It pulls like a 14y/old boy.......0-100 in about 3.5 secs and he's fooled plenty of people telling them it's a special import that the prancing horse only made limited numbers of
