Steering vs. Extractors

Wondering if anyone has used standard extractors on a 302 setup, like the ford racing shorty headers, through to side pipes. I do need to put cats on.
What and if there are any issues with them getting in the way of steering rods. Is there any need to go with a 3 joint steering system?
Pics would be great if anyone can assist.
And sidepipes? Are they all generic fit?

Trevor here used those headers as well. Had some fiddling getting the best ones but they look good.
