Default DAX Cobra in OZ?

Hi All,
just wondering if any of you can help with my dilemma. I am currently in the middle of my second cobra build here in the UK. had to sell the first unfinished one due to moving house and have now been offered a job in Sydney. The car is around 70% complete, body on engine and box in, just installing the loom etc. My question is can i complete the build in Oz, can anybody advise me on the red tape i might be facing etc, or do i sell it and hope some day i might get third time lucky and actually finish a cobra build,

Thanks for any advice

Dave

Hi Dave,

The NSW RTA have made it very dificult to register any cobra kit. Here we call them ICVs. There was not one ICV registered in 2010 or 2011 in NSW.

The RTA are requesting test results that just arnt possible. This includes skid testing on a surface that isnt available in australia, seat belt and seat anchor testing (damages chassis but some kits have these) and collapsible steering boss which is a destructive test. At this stage the RTA have not offered exemptions for these things. On top of that you need torsion and beaming test results ($1800) and brake test results (about $3000).

Whilst this is going on, the RTA are also changing the engineering scheme and puting requirements on the engineers that have a negative impact on the viablility of the business case. At this stage the engineers are furious with the planned scheme and many do not plan to join.

Hopefully this will all sort itself out before you have to make the decision.
